Hood, LaVernn M.

95, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 at the Pinecrest Senior Living Facility in Largo, Florida. She was born in Waynesville, Ohio on September 17, 1930. LaVernn and her sister, Patty (deceased), along with her parents, Vernon and Ruby Mainous, moved to St. Petersburg, FL when she was six years old.

Hers was a remarkable life, filled with numerous relatives, friends, and pets. She was an avid cook, well dressed, outgoing, and generous. Well-known for always having a smile on her face, LaVernn had a rewarding career as a registered nurse working in the Operating Room for 35 years at the Bayfront Medical Center. She worked alongside many surgeons who relied on her skills and caring personality in helping her patients.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul R. Hood and her son, Danny Hood. She shared many loving years with her devoted companion, Fred Hoyer (deceased). LaVernn and Fred traveled extensively, seeing the world and sharing their lives with their respective families. She is survived by her son, Robert Douglas Hood (Michael Petrina) and her daughter, Donna Jean Visnick (Mike). Bobby and Jeannie were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Maggie, Meghan, Dane, and Tanner, as well as her great-grandchildren, Madeline, Daniel, and Roman. Among her other survivors is her beloved dog, Bear, who follows in a long line of cherished animals who shared their lives with her.

When asked to sum up her life, her many admirers took note of her fun-loving, devoted, and gregarious qualities. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, followed by a private burial.
