Leif Rongved

RONGVED, Dr. Leif died Feb. 14, 2009 in Clearwater. Born June 12, 1923 in Bergen Norway, Dr. Rongved came to the United States in 1946 as a student at Columbia University where he earned is BS in Engineering, his MS in Civil Engineering, and in 1954 he earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in the Faculty of Pure Science. He was assistant professor at Penn State University from 1954 to 1956, was a member of the Industrial & Professional Advisory Council at Penn State University from 1962 to 1972, and was a member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Telephone Laboratories from 1956 to 1985, where he earned the Distinguished Technical Staff Award in 1984, Dr. Rongved has published extensively in the fields of mathematical theory of elasticity, fluid mechanics, and mathematical physics. Dr. Rongved is survived by his wife Thelma; his daughters June Rongved and Vivian Walton; a brother Paul; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
