Loris Caplan Obituary

Caplan, Loris Elizabeth "Sunshine" (Green)

age 98, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late John D. Caplan, and the kind and loving mother of Barbara Russell (Tom) of Huntersville, NC, Carole Dolohanty (Pat) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Nancy Howell (Bill) of Madeira Beach, FL. Loris was the cherished grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of nine.

Born and raised in Detroit, Loris graduated from what is now Eastern Michigan University. She worked as a children's librarian for the Detroit Public Library and later as a research librarian at General Motors Research Laboratories. After marrying, she spent most of her life in Michigan's Birmingham-Bloomfield area, where she was a member of The Village Club, AAUW, P.E.O. and First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. In her later years, she moved to California and Florida to be near her youngest daughter.

To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "Sunshine" - a name so fitting that many others began calling her that, too. She had a deep love of reading (especially The Wall Street Journal), walking, browsing model homes, shopping for clothes and traveling the world. A private family service will celebrate her life.
