Philip Knight Obituary

KNIGHT, Judge Phillip W. passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2011. His children and devoted caregiver Marika were at his side. His was a life devoted to love of family, friends, and country. Born on Oct. 31, 1928, in Troy, KS, he joined the Army during World War II by concealing his real age. He was honorably discharged but again returned his country's call by joining the Air Force during the Korean War, where he served as commissioned officer and pilot. His scores on various aptitude tests earned him a complete scholarship to law school at the University of Miami. During law school, he worked as a letter carrier to support his growing family and, upon graduation, was offered a prestigious clerkship at the United State's Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit. He then went into practice at the Miami based Fowler White firm where he quickly excelled and earned a reputation as a ferocious trial lawyer. A governor's appointment made him a Circuit Court Judge to which he was twice reelected. He retired to Sun City with his beloved wife Dori. Even until his death, he sought to compete and earned repeated "player of the year" honors for contract bridge at Sun City. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dori and his dear sister Mary Jo Vosburg. He is survived by his children, Stephen, Kathleen, David (Jeanne), James (Lynda), and Michael (July). He was blessed with five grandchildren, Phillip, Bliss, James, Stuart, and Michael. He has one great-grandchild, Adrian. As beloved to him as his natural family were the children and grandchildren of Dori. Her four beautiful daughters, Frankie, Della, Monica, and Anita were a special blessing to him especially in his final years. Anita's husband, David was especially attentive to his needs and gave generously of his time to see to his comfort. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 am Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center. Arrangements by Sun City Center Funeral Home
