Richard BURRESS Obituary

BURRESS, Richard "Rick"

59, of St. Petersburg, lost his battle with cancer Oct. 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard W. Burress, and his stepmother Sharon Burress. He moved with his mother and siblings to Treasure Island in 1968, where he grew up and attended Boca Ciega High School. Rick was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, including family camping outings as well as boating and water skiing. Rick spent most of his adult life working at Isla Del Sol, which included two years during the construction phase. When completed, Rick became the maintenance manager at Casa Del Mar II where he spent 33 years keeping their buildings and grounds in tip-top shape. One of his passions was his love of landscaping around the property. Casa Del Mar II at Isla Del Sol was Rick's family away from home; he knew three generations of some owner's families and amazed everyone with his ability to remember names, and conversation to keep current on their family activities. Rick is survived by his mother, Patricia J. Spriggs; brother, Bruce Spriggs; sister, Kandy Burress; stepbrother, Blake Meador-Adams; uncle, Jerry Burress; aunt, Joyce Hamblin; and many cousins. Rick's visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2-4 pm, with a celebration of life at 4 pm, both at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK Street, St. Petersburg. I still can't believe my wonderful brother, Rick is gone. It's not fair, but life is that way. I will miss him dearly, and I will treasure the last 4 months of his life that God allowed us to have together, no matter how bitter sweet they were. He was a good and kind soul, and my comfort is knowing that we will be together again with our Heavenly Father. Rest in peace dear brother. You were just too beautiful for this world, and don't worry about your little sister. I love you and know you're still looking out for me. I will be okay because, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

It's very difficult to accept that we won't see Rick again at Isla. He was such an intricate part of our wonderful experiences there over the past many years. We remember Rick's welcoming smile and appreciate his unfailing willingness to be helpful. Our boys loved to look out for Rick's golf cart and Nicholas especially enjoyed fishing with him. We will miss Rick very much but we are grateful to have known him. Our deepest sympathies to his family.

Sincere condolences to the Burress family. I knew Rick since 2007. We shared fishing as the topic of the day always. I know how he enjoyed catching bait and fishing Tierra Verde out of his live well on the white truck. I regret that we never got to wet a line together. Again so sorry for the most untimely loss.

I have so many memories ..
RIP

November 2, 2015

We moved into Casa II in 2002 and Rick seemed so young then. It's hard to believe he was with Casa so many years before that time. He made us feel welcome from our first day and always had that dazzling smile ready when I rushed by. There were just so many little things that Rick did that were special. I remember how excited he would be before the "snowbirds" came to town every year. Casa II had to be just perfect for their arrival, especially all the flowerbeds. And Rick would work hard to make sure everything was perfect. Sometimes it would be our good fortune to be the recipients of generous samplings of recipes he had cooked up the night before and he was a pretty darned good cook. Rick and my husband shared a passion for football and during season, there would be articles pertaining to The Bucs left at our door early in the morning, often a prelude to a discussion later in the day.
Rick always had a golf ball to toss to our dog, Ali, and we have an umbrella stand full of those balls that we would recycle back to him.
We were so fortunate to have someone like Rick all these years. He will be missed.

Though I havent seen Ricky in many years, I was always excited to hear when he and Kandy were going to be in Tennessee at the same time as us. So sorry for your loss.

Rick was just like family to us. He lit up our lives in Casa from the moment we moved in. Our children and grandchildren will miss him also. He was always so helpful and gracious about answering our questions. We'll always be looking for him and thinking of his smile and wonderful sense of humor as we look out toward the Bay.

Rick will be sadly missed - he always had a smile on his face and was a friendly face and always so helpful. He had watched my five children grow up and they were equally fond of him.

Rick personified Florida for us Brits; welcoming, sunny and every encounter was special. We are one of the three generation families John & Lyn Cox, now grandparents, Steve & Debbie May, now parents and our siblings and all our kids. He looked after us from his first year at Isla and when we bought our house in Tierra Verde and felt like our US cousin. It has been our great privilege to know Rick and he taught us so much about our environment and helped us enjoy and preserve what's important. Our thoughts are with your family. Thanks for so many happy times, Steve & Debbie xx

From the first day that we moved into our townhouse at Casa, Rick welcomed us. When we asked if he could arrange for a flowering plant to be added to the rear garden of our unit, he got it planted within days. When we had a bee infestation, it was taken care of the next day. He made us feel like there was always someone that we could count on. We were sad to learn that he was no longer working at Casa, but did not know that he was ill. He never complained nor shared his woes. Our sincerest condolences to the entire family. May Ricks name be a blessing unto you all. May G-d bless his soul and my Rick rest in peace. Amen

We will miss Rick's friendly face and dry wit and are saddened by his untimely death. For the past 25 years we have always been able to count on Rick's support. His care and concern for his Isla family was well recognized and he will be missed by many.
