Robert Wolgamuth Obituary
WOLGAMUTH, Robert, 88, of Brooksville, Fla., passed away from com-plications of a stroke Sunday, December 19, 2010. He had lived in Hernando County nearly 25 years. With his quiet strength, sense of duty, firm resolve and abiding faith, Bob epitomized the Greatest Generation. Born in Findlay, Ohio, he and his younger brother, David, were raised by a single mom and her sister in the midst of the Depression. The boys took leave from Findlay College in 1943 to enlist together for military service. Bob was assigned to the 258th Military Police Co. and stationed in Liverpool, England. Along with David, he returned to Findlay after the war where both completed college. Back home, Bob met and married the love of his life, Mary, within the span of six months. She preceded him in death after more than 61 years together. After his successful career rising through the executive ranks of Travelers Insurance Co., the couple retired to the area in 1986. Here Bob immersed himself in the local community. He re-dedicated his affiliation with the Free and Accepted Masons. Member of the Brotherhood Lodge 375 of Spring Hill, he sat on the board of the Hernando County Shrine Club for many years, where he also served as secretary. He was also an officer at the Egyptian Shrine in Tampa and rose to the 32nd Degree in the Consistory of the Valley of Tampa. Bob, as well as Mary, became active members of Mariner United Methodist Church. He became a trustee of the church and sat on the Board of Directors of UMM, acting as secretary for many years. Mr. Wolgamuth is survived by his son, Scott, who resides in San Francisco, Calif., with his wife, Sherri, and numerous nieces and a nephew. Bob set a high standard as a husband, father, citizen and friend. He will be missed by many. He and his sadly disappearing peers made an exclamation point in American History that challenges succeeding generations to equally excel. A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34609. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Robert Wolgamuth to the Memorial Fund at Mariner United Methodist Church, Sterling House Assisted Living Facility or HPH Hospice.
