On this day and in this moment, I am filled with great sadness. Sadness for the times that were lost and the memories that were yet to be made. It's hard to believe that 13 years have now passed since you left us to be with the Lord. You were a beloved son, a devoted brother, a proud uncle and a best friend to many. It's been a difficult past year, no doubt, and it's especially during times like these when your presence, your wisdom and wit are especially missed. I am comforted by the fact that your spirit and legacy live on, and I know that through it all, you are watching over all of those you love ... a true guardian angel. Rest in Heaven my brother and my friend, until we meet again. R.L.W. (1968 - 2007).

I was going through all my boxes filled with photos, letters and other memories and found a thanks you letter that Landon gave for volunteering at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts. I Googled Landon to see if I could get in touch with him since I haven't seen him in about 25 years since I moved to California. My heart just dropped and can't believe that he passed away back on 2007. If someone could email me and let me know why happened, I would really appreciate it. I upload a picture of the 3 amigos in Chicago back in the days when we were young. We were up there to go to the Oprah Winfrey Show since he was friends with one of the producers. Landon, I miss you my brother.

Uncle Landon,
I dont think I could ever express my love for you. I may not have known you for nearly enough time, but I will always remember your smile, those dimples I so loved... How you seemed to be in a perpetual state of pure joy, radiating your brilliance to everyone and everything around you. I remember you rocking me on your lap, sitting on the couch, as my brother ran around building with cardboard blocks. I remember the tiny old wooden rocking horse we had, and how you watched me and smiled that life-giving smile. The same smile I keep by my bedside, suspending you in time beside the love of your life, Aunt Molina, forever in that same infinite happiness that you seemed to possess so long ago. This is how I will always remember you. But I recently discovered something I had never known. I have basically always loved to draw. Sometimes it feels like a natural instinctjust something I was born to do. And you drew, too. Amazingly. This has done nothing but further deepen my passion for art, because knowing that I now have that connection to you, and knowing that it can never be taken from me, makes me feel like I know you just a little bit better.

Landon,
It has been over 1 year since you left us, and some days are wonderful, they are the way they always were, when we were together, and other days are hard. I miss your calming influence, and the easy way you got all of us to behave and work together. As I said last year, the world is a little less bright without your charming smile. I am glad I got to meet your Mom and Dad, and you will be happy to know we still get together and talk (although not nearly enough - my fault Richard and Brenda).
This is what I wrote right after the last time Sister Laretta and I were with you, and she was kind enough to read for me when I could not:
Landon, You have left us to go to a better place,
even though I am not ready to say good-bye.
I simply imagine your smiling face and your dimples,
and I can move on again.
I can't help but think of you when things get hectic,
missing your divine guidance, your easy way.
I think about all the stuff that we didn't get to say or do.

Hello I read the Howard Magazine and heard of the lost of Landon. He was a dear friend to me many years back and he helped me through some really tough times. He was an angel on earth and I know he is an angel in heaven.

Dear Family,
Our deepest sympathies to you as we, Landon's fellow alumni and members of the Howard University Economics Department Alumni Association (HUEDAA) are receiving this news. We are shocked and saddened, yet so grateful that you were able to contact us to let us know. The kind expressions posted about Landon reaffirm the person we came to know. We worked together with Landon for a couple of years on projects to support the department and students. Landon was a faithful, committed team member--dedicated to the cause. He was soft-spoken and kind; and, yes, his big smile brightened many meetings! Though he had to leave the area for travel, he kept in touch with us via email. He had recently written the group to say hello. We were looking forward to seeing him again soon. He will be missed. The Lord God of all Comfort, comfort and keep you in this hour.

It was such a pleasure and privilege to meet Landon in grad school and work with him at IBM. Such a nice guy, never a harsh word from him about anything. Somethings in life I will not ever understand, his untimely passing is one of them. May he rest in the peace that only God can give.

Howzit? That was Landon's favourite greeting from South Africa. I met him in South Africa, then he and Mbali visited us in Paris. Landon had so much energy and life in him. He was such an explorer! Landon's family,I only knew Landon for a few years. Landon was the most compassionate and generous person I knew. I recall him making a generous donation to a tiny, humble church in Soweto. He was so saddened by the condition of the little structure, that he thought of helping to revive and rebuild it. That's just the kind of man that he was. Mbali, Gary, Helen and I miss you.

Landon had a tremendous impact on everyone he met. His sunny smile and disposition made him friends around the world. He was a joy to work with because of his sense of humor and dedication.
He was a great colleague and friend as I got to know him in South Africa. More than anyone else on that trip, Landon really got to know South Africa and immersed himself in the local culture and activities, from concerts to playing cricket. He had everyone laughing in the mornings when he would ask in the local idiom “Howzit?” His insatiable sense of adventure led him to the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, where he bungee jumped off of Victoria Falls Bridge and rafted down the Zambezi River.
I will miss him. I offer my deepest sympathies to his family. He will continue to inspire me and others.

I always new you as Roger in high school but I came to know you as Landon at our reunions over the past 20 years.
