Ginn, Ronald Eric "Ronn"

92, of Pinellas Park, passed away at home Thursday, December 4, 2025 of apparent heart failure with loving companion Sandy Williams by his side. Born April 17, 1933, in Jacksonville, FL to Joan and Theodore Ginn, the oldest of six, Ronn was a proud graduate of the University of Florida, with masters in architecture ('60) and landscape architecture ('61). He was a practicing licensed architect for 65 years until retirement in 2025 with more than 9,800 career commissions. Known for his dynamic personality and red hair, Ronn's early career was spent in New Mexico, where he won a 1966 AIA national award for Excellence in Community Architecture for a redesign of downtown Albuquerque. He worked in urban design for U.S. Housing and Urban Development in the District of Columbia before entering private practice in Pinellas County in 1969. In 1972 he co-led the Pinellas Red Flag Charrette, which identified potential environmentally sensitive lands for preservation, with historic results for the county. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Treasure Island in 1973, but worked closely with Treasure Island., St. Petersburg and Pinellas governments for decades on various projects and committees. He was perhaps best known for the curved, concrete, hurricane-proof and totally unique redesign of the Penguin Restaurant on Treasure Island in 1974. Ronn was a proud Eagle Scout who passed the tradition to his son and two grandsons. Always an artist, he began painting beautiful portraits in his 70s. In addition to Sandy Williams, his devoted partner for nearly two decades, Ronn is survived by two children from his marriage to Valerie Broderson Ginn, a daughter, Sharon Gray of Wellesley, MA and a son, John Norman (Laurel) of Pinellas Park; and grandchildren, Jack, Matthew, Katharine, Aiden, and Caleb; brother, David (Judy); sisters, Nancy Cherry and Dalzell McDilda; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. A celebration of Ronn's incredibly full life will be Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11 am at his beloved First Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg. He will be interred near his parents and brothers, Johnny and Shannon in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville.
