Scott Summers Obituary

Summers, Scott Lewis

Scott passed away on December 27, 2024 at the same hospital where he was born – Morton Plant, Clearwater – at the age of 56. He was a life-long Florida resident having been raised in Dunedin and spending his adult life in Clearwater except for a short time in Tampa. After graduating from the University of South Florida with a degree in business he went on to have a very successful career in law enforcement with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department. He rose through the ranks to become a detective with the Sexual Predator and Offender Tracking (SPOT) unit and earned many accolades and citations. Scott was very proud of his service to the community and retired after 25 years of duty.

Throughout his life Scott was an avid fisherman. When he was younger his family would spend many weekends on their boat going to various islands in the Saint Joseph Sound. Even at a very early age he would grab a rod, bucket of bait and a sandwich and go off by himself to fish for hours until he was tracked down to go home.

Scott was preceded in death by father, Leo and grandparents, Doris and Lewis Lane and Isabel and Leo Summers. He is survived by mother, Brenda; brothers, Gregg and Jeff; and sisters-in-law. Danine and Michelle. Scott will be remembered as a great friend and for his outgoing personality. May he have found peace at last. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (https://www.missingkids.org) or the Gary Sinise Foundation (https://www.garysinisefoundation.org).

I had the honor of working with Scott at the sheriff's office in the SPOT unit.

Like others have shared, Scott was a funny and giving soul who truly embraced connection with others.

I am truly saddened to hear of his passing but I'm grateful for the time that we were able to spend together in the unit. Lots of laughs in the midst of a hard yet rewarding profession.

May you rest eternal my friend. Scott will forever live on in my mind and heart.

Scott and I went to Dunedin High School together. I was devastated to hear the news of his passing. Scott was a great person with great personality. We didn't see much of each other after high school but when we did it was like no time had passed. He always was so excited to see you. He will be truly missed. I know Scott is in heaven making everyone laugh up there. My condolences go out to his Sherriff community, his family and his friends.

I knew Scotty from work (SPOT), we worked together for at least 10 years. The SPOT unit was a close knit group back then. Scott was one of the silliest and caring men, I have ever known. He had such a passion for the job, it was more than a job, to him.

I can say, he was never too busy if someone needed an ear to vent. Or do an impromptu music singing loudly in the office. I can still hear him singing at his desk...

I truly hope Scotty is at peace. My condolences to the family. Gonna miss him in this world.
