Steve ZEBOS Obituary

ZEBOS, Steve 92, of the Mainlands in Pinellas Park, Florida passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, 2021. Steve was the beloved husband of the late Judith Ann Barrett Zebos, married for 64 years. He was the devoted father of four children, Julie Vaught, Barrett Zebos (Jackie), Sara Swastek (Fred), Chris Zebos (Michelle); adored grandfather of Rebecca Vaught, Joanna Zebos, and Daniel Swastek; loyal brother to Mary, Helen, Jane, Albert, and Blanche. Steve was raised in Dupo, Illinois then joined the Marines where at 6'5" he played basketball as a recruiter for the corps at college games. He graduated from Southern Illinois University earning a master degree in Education in 1960. He was a very popular history and social studies teacher at Maine East High School in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge (taught Hillary Clinton) where he coached baseball and basketball teams in the 1960-80s. He refereed at high school and college level basketball. He helped many kids get into college with athletic scholarships. In 1985, Steve and Judy moved to Hendersonville, NC and owned the Waverly Inn BnB. As a professional scout for the Chicago White Sox, he was with the team for the world series championship in 2005. World traveler (26 cruises) and 'father' to many pug dogs, he was a charismatic, funny, and great storytelling friend to all. He treated everyone with respect and caring. He encouraged everyone to be the best version of themselves. Rest in heavenly peace. Private graveside service is at Bay Pines National Cemetery.

I had Mr. Zeno´s as my social studies teacher in 1974. He was an amazing teacher, my favorite class. Will carry fond memories always.
