Theodore Pierce Obituary

Pierce, Theodore "Ted"

80, of Land O' Lakes, Florida, passed away on November 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 5, 1945, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Ted grew up on Plum Island with his parents, Walter and Hazel, and siblings, Kathy and John. At 18, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard an icebreaker near the South Pole. After his service, he moved to Florida, where he met Lee at St. Petersburg Junior College. Married for 56 years, they built a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and family.

Ted earned an education degree from the University of South Florida and, over the years, taught school, served as an insurance agent, and provided financial planning. Known for his warmth and generosity, he truly never met a stranger.

He was a sports enthusiast who loved golf, softball, baseball, and tennis and proudly won two over-70 national softball championships.

Above all, he loved and cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Lee; children, Chris (Vanessa) and Shelly (Jason); grandchildren, Austin (Caitlin), Ethan, Zachary, Sydney, and Avery; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lincoln, and Landon. He especially loved family trips to Hilton Head, traveling with Lee and friends, and interacting with, and cheering on, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2023, Ted faced his illness with courage. Lee cared for him at home with unwavering love, supported by Gulfside Hospice for the past 18 months.

Ted's big spirit, generous heart, blue eyes, and sparkling smile made everyone feel like a friend. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held on November 22, 2025 at 11 am, at Grace Family Church, 22920 SR 54, Lutz, FL 33549. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gulfside Hospice at gulfside.org, or Grace Family Church at gfcflorida.com.

Ted was truly a great friend to me and to many others. I had the privilege of living across the street from him and his family for eight entertaining years. There are many memories of playing golf with him and friends as well as playing in softball games. He was a caring and extroverted character who was funny and liked to laugh a lot. The world has lost a very special and charismatic person. My thoughts go out to Lee, Chris, Shelly and the rest of his wonderful family!

Ted is an amazing man. He was kind and friendly to all. He always smiled, had a way of making you feel special and was an engaging conversationalist. Lee and family, we are so sorry that Ted had to endure such an illness and left this world too soon. Hugs

Lee, Chris and I were deeply saddened to hear about Ted's passing. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this challenging time, and I hope you find solace in the support of loved ones. Ted's fun loving, positive impact, and the cherished memories we have of him will undoubtedly endure. Regrettably, Chris and I will be leaving for the mountains of North Carolina on Friday with our son Brian and his three boys, so we won't be able to attend the memorial service on Saturday. We truly wish we could be there to support you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers, and if there's anything we can do upon our return, or if you need someone to talk to, we're always here for you. Sending you strength and comfort during this difficult time.
