Thomas Syphers Obituary

SYPHERS, Thomas G., 77 of Avon Park, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005 in Sebring. He was born July 23, 1927 to Earl G. and Lois (Spicer) Syphers, in Cleveland, Ohio, and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1981, coming from Avon Lake, Ohio. He was a supervisor with Ohio Bell Telephone for 34 years and was a veteran of World War II, from 1944-1946, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of USS Alabama Crewman's Association; Telephone Pioneers Association and Good Sam Travel Club. He was an avid fisherman and boater and was a voluntary missionary for Wycliffe Bible Translators in Jaars Center, Waxhaw, N.C. He was also a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Syphers of Avon Park; daughters, Marlene Waehner of Roswell, Ga., Karen Knowles of Bourbonnais, Ill. and Lora Callihan of Nova, Ohio; sons, Thomas G. Syphers II of Sullivan, Ohio and David J. Syphers of Avon, Ohio; sister, Barbara L. Williams of Boynton Beach, Fla. and 13 grandchildren. M emorial service will be conducted Friday, February 18, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring with Dr. Eugene Bengtson and Reverend Reinhold Buxbaum officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Fellowship Mission Fund or Benevolence Fund.
