POFFENBERGER, Virginia Joy age 78, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. Born in Perry, IA, the daughter of Charles and Loraine Joy, Ginny graduated from Perry High School in 1953 and earned her Bachelor degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University in 1957. She married Richard Lee Poffenberger in June 1957, and they raised three children. While her kids were in high school, Ginny returned to Drake University to earn her law degree, then became partner in the family law practice in Perry. Ginny also served two terms as Iowa State Representative (1979-1983). She enjoyed a full life in Perry where she was a member of many organizations, both professional and social, until she and Dick retired to Tierra Verde, FL, in 1999. Ginny continued to be an active community member in her retired life with her involvement as board member in her condo association as well as membership in both St. Petersburg Methodist churches, P.E.O., St. Petersburg Yacht Club, and the Dolphin Sailing Club. Virginia is survived by her two brothers, Bill (Connie) and Jim; her three children, Liz, Tom (Gail), and Jim (Margaret); and her four granddaughters. Memorial service will take place at 1 pm, on Saturday, Oct. 12th, at Christ United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation or memoriam gift to any of these organizations: Epilepsy Foundation, (http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/), or the National Stroke Association, (http://www.stroke.org), or the Alzheimer's Association, (http://www.alz.org/).
