Warren Hughes Obituary

HUGHES, J. Warren 82, of Clearwater, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on April 26, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1938 and was raised in Tampa's Seminole Heights. He was a graduate of the great class of 1956 from Hillsborough High. He has been a resident of Pinellas County since 1959. Work for Warren started at age 12 as a paper boy and cutting lawns. At 19, he became a Florist. He owned six locations of Reed's Florist and in 1969 he sold to Bunning the Florist to pursue a new career in Real Estate Development. That opened a whole new world to owning many businesses and partnering with some of the best in business. To name a few, Dynamic Realty, US Resico, Peter Brown Construction, Vesta Property Services, Largo Intercoastal Marina. A no-frills, hard driving work ethic has resulted in successful business ventures many times over and kept Warren working full time until the fall of 2020. He was a founding member of Clearwater For Youth, a Bull Gator and a mentor. One of his friends said, "He was my mentor, and the reason I've done so many things on a daily basis over the last 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph and Irene (Roberts) Hughes and Thomas Wendell Hughes. He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn "Sue" Flaig; his three children, Chris (Anece) of Clearwater, Michele Powers (Shaun) of Safety Harbor and Stephen of Australia. Grandchildren Sarah, Davis and Graham Hughes; Trey and Emma Wolfe; Jacob Hughes. A sister, Mary Jane Trimble (Bob) of Brandon. A Sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and several loving stepchildren and step-grandchildren and a lifetime of friends. A visitation will take place at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home www.SylvanAbbey.com on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 4 pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in his name to Clearwater For Youth, 1501 N Belcher Rd., Suite 711, Clearwater, FL 33765 or The Refuge of Clearwater, 606 Alden Avenue, Clearwater, FL 33755. We feel very fortunate to have known Warren for many years and able to call him a good friend. He was our “landlord” for many years but quickly became a good friend who helped us in business and investments. We always admired his incredible energy and amazing knowledge and intelligence. He was one of a kind and an inspiration to so many.

Our sincere condolences to Warren’s family. He will no doubt be missed by everyone who knew him but know his passing will leave a large emptiness within his family.
