William BOYD Obituary

BOYD, Dr. William P. Jr. age 67, an influential and dedicated gastroenterologist in Tampa, died on Jan. 5, 2014. Dr. Boyd served as Chief of the Section of Gastroenterology at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital from 2000 until his retirement in 2011. He previously served as faculty at the University of Florida and the University of South Florida. He also spent time in private practice in Tampa and St. Petersburg. He was a sought after speaker and consultant on liver disease. Dr. Boyd's true passion, however, was teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. He was awarded Clinical Faculty Professor of the year five times. Dr. Boyd was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina. He is survived by two daughters, Kelli Boyd (Luke Lindhjem) and Krista Boyd; two grandsons, Nicholas and Max; former wife Felecia R. Boyd; two sisters, Josephine Bonnette and Dianne Wigger; four nieces; one nephew; and many friends and colleagues. A memorial service will be held on Jan. 9 at 7 pm, in the East Club room at Raymond James Stadium. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the USF College of Medicine Endowed Scholarship Fund.
