GALVIN, William Harry "Bill"

91, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at home. He was born May 30, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio, Bill joined the Navy in June, 1944 and was assigned to the Seabees in New Guinea. He was with the invasion forces in The Philippines October, 1944 and was discharged August 17, 1946. Bill reenlisted in the Army in September, 1948 and was sent to Okinawa in February, 1949, assigned to SCARWAF (Special Category Army with Air Force) at Kadena Air Force Base. He was discharged in June, 1952. Bill then worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1984. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 139, and Seabee Veterans of America. He was preceded in death by his father, John Dallas Galvin, October 21, 1956; mother, Lena May (Jinks) Galvin, August 29, 1988; his brothers, Robert J. Galvin, April 17, 2000, Donald J. Galvin, July 25, 1986, Jack A. Galvin, August 22, 2004; wife, Dorothy, in April 2005; and stepdaughter, Shirley Scranton, of Galloway, Ohio. Bill is survived by his sister, Lois J. Compton, of Groveport, Ohio; Ray Papp, of Columbus, Ohio; along with several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 10:30 am, on Thursday, March 29, at Myrtle Hill Cemetery where Bill will be buried alongside his wife. Chaplain Joseph Roberts will have comments on Bill's life and lead us in prayer.
