William R. Peterson Sr.

PETERSON, William R., Sr. "Bob," 90, of Tampa, was called by his heavenly Father Monday, June 22, 2009. Born in Gladstone, Mich., to John and Hilda Peterson, he was one of five children. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. He was an exceptional cook and excellent woodworker. After he retired, William donated 10,000 hours of his time to volunteering at MOSI. He received recognition of his dedicated service to MOSI from both President Bush and Hillsborough County. William was a member and past elder and deacon at First Reformed Church of Town and Country. He is a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during World War II. William was also a member of the Palma Ceia Kiwanis Club of Tampa for over 30 years. While living in Chicago during his earlier years, William had an extremely impressive career in the business industry. He owned several restaurants, a vending company, and a gas station. In 1970 he relocated his family to Florida, where he owned Peterson Corp. and Waste Aid Systems Inc., which he operated with his sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, John and Hilding. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Stella of Lutz; four sons, Bill (Kathy), Ken and Tom (Diane), of Odessa, Fla., and Jim (Julie) of Brooksville, Fla. He is also survived by one sister, Eileen Sisley, of San Francisco, Calif. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., with funeral service at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 W. Bearss Ave., Tampa, 33618.
