George R. Yelle
George Roger Yelle 96, of Newport News, VA, died April 29th, 2021. Roger is survived by his beloved bride of 66 years Maria O'Hearne Yelle. The youngest of eight children, he was born April 13, 1925 in Taunton, MA to Arthur and Alma Yelle. The Yelles were first generation immigrants from Quebec, Canada. During the Second World War, Roger served in the Navy as a radio man stationed in the Pacific theatre. Back home in Taunton, he had the good fortune to meet Maria and they married on Independence Day in 1955. He owned The Oakland Superette neighborhood grocery. Later Roger became a food inspector for the USDA from which he retired in 1987. The Yelles were long-time members of Saint Jacques (later renamed St. James) Catholic Church, where they served in many ministries. During their golden years they saw much of the world from the decks of cruise ships. Roger rejoiced when the Red Sox broke their 85 year curse in 2004 and again in 2007, 2013 and 2018, and during each championship run by the amazing New England Patriots. The greatest joy of their lives was to raise five children together, all of whom survive him. They are Michael Yelle and wife Jennifer of Tiverton, RI, Roger Yelle and wife Caitlin Griffith of Tucson, AZ, Mary Bonzek and husband Christopher of Newport News, VA, Ruth Boisse and husband Joseph Docolla of Brentwood, NH, and John Yelle and wife Anne of Tinton Falls, NJ. Those five have given Roger and Maria 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, so far. The family wishes to thank all of the staff and fellow residents of the Hidenwood Assisted Living facility for their kindness and fellowship.

Mr Yelle and his family were neighbors of mine in Taunton and I was friends with his kids, he was a wonderful man, I loved being at their house. I’m so sorry for your loss. I still live in Whittenton and always think of you all when I pass your old house.

Ruth and the entire Yelle family,

My condolences to you all for the loss of your dad.
I first met your Mr. and Mrs. Yelle in 1975 when Ruth and I were friendly. They both were the sweetest people. Always so kind to all of us kids.
I was lucky enough to see them occasionally in Whittenton, over the years.
Mr. Yelle was so kind and caring , it was always such a pleasure to have a few minutes of conversation with him. A true gentleman.
The entire Yelle family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Im so shocked about your passing! I will keep Maria and their family in my prayers.
In your hands, O Lord,
we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil
and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:
welcome them into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy
with your Son and the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.
