Manuel Sylvia

Manuel (Manny) Sylvia, 100, of Dighton, passed away peacefu- lly Saturday morning, January 12, 2019 at Marian Manor Nursing Home in Taunton. He was the husband of the late Lillian M. (Torres) Sylvia. Born in Little Compton, RI, he was a son of the late Jesse and Mary (Teixeira) Sylvia. During his early years, Manny served with the Long Island Sound Harbor Defense. He was employed as a tree surgeon and mechanic for Hixon Tree Company in Dighton, MA for 45 years. Upon his retirement, Manny enjoyed spending time in his garage doing small engine repair for family, friends and acquaintances. Affectionately known as good time Manny, he was very charismatic, had a playful sense of humor and was often the life of the party. Manny had a great love of the outdoors and his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, gardening, and keeping his lawn in immaculate condition. He was an amazing cook, and especially enjoyed Portuguese cuisine. He is survived by his four daughters, Judith Daggett and her husband Brian of Royal Palm Beach, FL; Joanne Burt and her partner Paul Lemaire of Taunton, MA; Susan McCrohan and her husband Danny of Appleton, ME; and Leslie Eaton and her husband Dan of Rockport, ME; a sister, Rose Costa of Fall River, MA; eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and four sisters preceded Manny in death. Manuel's funeral with visitation will begin on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 am, with a funeral service at 12:00 pm, in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary's Square) Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
