My remembrance of Richard goes back to a time when I was a child. I am now 58 yrs old. Richard was a good friend of my parents Jean (Gerry)and Christine Caron. He would visit us at our home in New Haven CT and join us while we are on vacation in Cape Cod. To me he seemed the purveyor of culture, he found a great ally in my mother as he shared about books, music, and their common love, scrabble. As a child it struck me that he knew things, and wanting to know a lot about things and not knowing much, I admired and wondered at his curiosity. When I was 10 yrs old in 1968, he took me, (just me,) with him to Boston to see the science fiction film: 2001. 2001 seemed like an impossibly distant and unimaginable future to me then, and here we are at 2017! I honor Richard for his curiosity and his kindness, as I wonder that we all are on some kind of vast journey. He might have appreciated these words from the poet Rilke:
"Whoever you are: some evening take a step out of your house, which you know so well. Enormous space is near, your house lies where it begins whoever you are." Good Journey Richard!

Our hearts go out to the Januse family for the loss of Richard. He was a beloved friend who grew up with me and was my best friend and playmate as a child. He was always at my side with a kind word and encouragement for the rest of my life. I shall miss him always and so will my family.
