Allan Kershner Obituary

ALLAN RICHARD KERSHNER Allan Richard "Dick" Kershner, 79, formerly of Vero Beach, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA. He was born on December 15, 1926, in Akron, OH, and was the son of the late Archie Raymond and Gertrude Duncan Kershner. He received his degree from Akron University and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Mr. Kershner was the owner of a Goodyear Tire Dealership in Vero Beach, Kershner Tire and Appliance, for over 30 years. He was also an active member of the Vero Beach First United Methodist Church, and served on several boards and committees, as well as in the Chancel Choir and Aware Sunday School Class while there. Mr. Kershner was actively involved in the Vero Beach Exchange Club, coached Little League, and played softball with the Vero Beach Codgers. After relocating to Athens, GA, he became a member of the Chapelwood United Methodist Church and led hymn-sings during chapel services at Iris Place Retirement Center where he resided until his death. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Survivors include his children, Deborah Lynn Kershner (Mark), of Frederick, MD; Kevin Richard Kershner and wife, Phyllis, of Sebastian, FL; Jeffrey Alan Kershner and wife, Jody, of Marietta, GA, and Melinda Lee Towe and husband, Scott, of Watkinsville, GA; brothers, Bill Kershner and wife, Sharon of Paso Robles, CA and Jim Kershner and wife, Karen of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Colby and wife, Marissa, Adrian and wife, Lissa, Bethany and husband, Adam, Tiffany (Jon), Caine, Julie and husband, Jeffrey, Kristi, Bryan, Sean, Allison, Mason and Lauren; and great grandchildren, Gabriel, Simon, Emily, Sarah, Jonathan, and Joshua. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laurene Johns Kershner, and his second wife, Helen Friedlander Kershner. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lord & Stephens, West of Athens, GA.

We miss you, Dad! You made Christmas everyone's favorite time of year, so we're sure you and Mom were watching over our family reunion THIS Christmas.
