ANNE CARPER MCKEE Anne Carper McKee, 90, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Charleston, WV, died on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. Born Nov. 30, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James Garfield and Susan Kelly Carper of Charleston. In addition to her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 64 years, William H. McKee, Sr., and her only sibling, Genevieve Carper Chewning. Anne graduated from Charleston High School and West Virginia University, earning a BA degree in Music Education. Music was a great passion in her life. For almost forty years, before moving to Myrtle Beach and Vero Beach during retirement, Anne was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, serving in music ministry there. She sang in the choir, oftentimes as a solo vocalist, played hand bells, and volunteered as a pianist for children's choir. Anne also shared her vocal talents as a Charter member of Charleston Light Opera Guild, and with the Charleston Civic Chorus. An excellent homemaker, Anne was a life-long learner and had many interests; she was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and loved traveling. She served as a volunteer in the pediatric unit at Charleston Area Medical Center, testing the hearing of newborns. She lived a full and meaningful life. Survivors include two sons, William Jr. (Martha) of Charleston and John (Linda) of Nitro. Also surviving are grandchildren William III of Tampa, Fla., Meme (Michael) Fehmers and Maggie, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Corrie of Lexington, Ky; and great-grandchildren Jake McKee, Zephyr and Grayson Fehmers. Anne is also survived by very special niece and friend, Anne Bouldin of Vero Beach, Fla. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV. There will be a memorial service to honor Anne's life at a later date.
