DAVID BOGAN Obituary

CAPTAIN DAVE "POP POP" BOGAN, SR. Captain Dave "Pop Pop" Bogan, Sr. peacefully passed away on December 7, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. "Capt'n Dave" was born in Point Pleasant, NJ, May 2, 1940. In 1950 the Bogan family moved to Brielle. During high school, he joined the family business at Bogan's Basin as the Captain of the Pennsy. He graduated from St. Rose High School (1958), Belmar, NJ. He and Barbara DeRose married in 1959 and he attended the University of Miami until 1961. They returned to Brielle where he would captain the Jamaica II and the Paramount until 1982. In 1982 he and his cousin, Paul Bogan, operated the Claudia Jo, a commercial fishing vessel. Capt'n Dave and Barbara retired to Sebastian, Florida in 1996. Even after retirement, he remained active by occasionally running the Miss Sebastian out of Captain Butcher's Dock and helping gas boats up at Captain Hiram's Sandbar. He also worked with his grandson, David Fahmie, Jr. at U-Haul, driving trucks until, May 2014. Despite retirement and his illness, Capt'n Dave continued to fish every chance he could. He was often joined by friends and family on the ocean. He was widely known for his "black book of numbers" featuring wrecks, reefs and holes where catching fish was always the best on even the worst of days. Capt'n Dave is preceded in death by his parents, John Jr. and Lillian Bogan and his brothers, John and Michael. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Bogan; their four children and spouses: Barbara and Thomas Hohmann, Vero Beach, FL; Dave Bogan, Jr. Sebastian, FL; Christopher and Ginger Jahn Bogan, Lewes, DE; and Joanne and Jason Younker, Eugene, OR. He is also survived by his three brothers and their spouses: Howard and Claire Bogan, Brick, NJ; Thomas and Marilyn Bogan, Sebastian, FL; and Joseph and Jean Bogan, Brick, NJ. Also surviving are: John and Brenda DeRose, Sebastian, FL and Anne DeRose, Sebastian, FL; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They fondly called him "Pop Pop" and he was adored by all: David, Jordan and Matt Fahmie; Taylor, Kayla and Abby Bogan; Lillia and Kiana Younker; and Blake Fahmie. A funeral mass will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church on December 27 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the Bogan family requests to please send a donation to the Visiting Nurse Association of The Treasure Coast, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or to Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, PO Box 23827, Tampa, FL 33623.

To the Bogan family,
Tom and I love Joanne. She is quite a treasure. We know how much she loves her family. We just want to express our sympathy. I am sure "pop pop" will be missed greatly. Tom and Hilda Younker (cousins)

Dave aboard Captain Jack Bogan's "COLUMBIA" in August 1950. Like any 10-year old lad, he was out fishing on a boat and happy as a clam.

We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Dave's passing. Mike and I always enjoyed speaking with him over the years. Dave had

an incredible wealth of knowledge, history and lore about the fishing business and he freely shared his wonderful stories and photos

with us. We are so glad we had the opportunity to know him. Without a doubt, Dave took a boatload of good memories with him when he

passed and that is the mark of a life well lived. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and know that he is in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Mel Deak and Mike Daniewicz

Mrs. Bogan and family. I'm so sorry to hear about your husbands passing away. I use to work on his boat the "paramount" back in the mid 70's and enjoyed working with him. Such a nice man and taught me the ropes of the job. We all going to miss him. Wish we could have come down a lot sooner and visit. Take care and Godbless you and family. Sincerly David Zinetti
