Doris Ingraham Shader

DORIS INGRAHAM SHADER November 14, 1934 - March 30, 2009 Doris Ingraham Shader, born in Detroit, Michigan, peacefully passed away at her Stuart home March 30, 2009, surrounded by her friends and family. She graduated from Michigan State University with a BS degree in Home Economics and taught high school before moving on to fashion commentary for Vogue Magazine, traveling the country. She studied acting, was a member of the Actors' Equity Association, performed extensively on stage and in films. In 1977 she married Bill Shader and his family of nine children. She volunteered extensively for Friends of Hospice, serving as president for two years as well as on their Board of Directors. Doris also served as President of Conquistador Homeowners' Association. She was an avid patron of the arts and acted as a community ambassador for the Lyric Theatre in Stuart. She was a member of the Sailfish Stitchers, creating and donating artistic needlework to Treasure Coast Hospice. She and Bill collected needed items for servicemen and women stationed overseas. Doris had a joie de vivre and tremendous loyal affection for her friends and family. She loved happy gatherings; initiated the 'Flamingo' party tradition to welcome new neighbors. She and Bill secretly delivered Easter baskets to friends early Easter morning. She and daughter Alice donned elaborate costumes and went Trick-or-Treating Halloween night. Her dramatic flair and humor enlivened any event she organized or attended. For many summers she and Bill went on the road in their motor home to visit their children and grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, William Cook Shader and is survived by their children Alice Shader Oguss, Suzanne Shader Barnhart, William Henry Shader, Keith Charles Shader, Douglas Allan Shader, Robert Neil Shader, Anna Marie Shader, Holly Ann Shader, Henry Cook Shader, Sister-in-law Dee Ingraham, neice Karen Ingraham, nephew Craig Ingraham, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grand- children. Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice Inc., 1201 S.E. Indian St, Stuart, FL 34997. SERVICES: A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 3 at the Conquistador Clubhouse, 1800 S.E. St. Lucie Blvd., Stuart.
