Dorothy C. Harrington

DOROTHY C. HARRINGTON Dorothy C. Harrington was born on November 1, 1924 in Duluth, Minnesota to George and Grace Chamberlain. She passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2012 in Stuart, Florida. She gradated from Crosby- Ironton High School in 1924 and from the University of Minnesota in 1946. In 1948 Dotty married her high school sweetheart, Vern Harrington, and they eventually settled in Duluth, Minnesota.She taught public school vocal music in Chisholm, Minnesota; at Lincoln Junior High School in Duluth; and in Zion, Illinois. In Duluth, she was past president and a member of the Cecillian Society, officer and board member of the Matinee Musicale, and an officer and board member of the Duluth Superior Symphony Association. She and Vern were members of Mariner Sands Chapel in Stuart, Florida. They both sang in the Chapel Choir, and she was Chair of the Music Committee for ten years. Dotty served on the board of the Minnesota Women's Golf Association, and she was president and board member of Northland Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She was a participant and winner of many Duluth area golf touraments, particularly from 1954 to 1975. Dottie was club champion at Northland Country Club ten times and was Duluth City Champion in 1965. She was also a member of Mariner Sands Ladies Golf Association Board in Stuart, Florida, where she played golf for many years. She will be sadly missed by her many friends, especially her golf group, "The Wednesday Girls Who Also Play on Friday". Dotty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Vernon A. Harrington,MD; a brother, George Chamberlain, Gainesville, Florida; nephews, David Harrington, of Bemidji, Minnesota and Joe Harrington of Minetonka, Minnesota; a nephew Daniel P. Chamberlain of Taiwan; and a grand-nephew Daniel F. Chamberlain of Watkinsville,Georgia. A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 29th at 9 AM at Mariner Sands Chapel , according to her wishes, with Dr. Bill Weimer, officiating.
