E. Chewning Obituary

E. TAYLOR CHEWNING, JR. E. Taylor Chewning, Jr., of Vero Beach, Florida and Middletown, Rhode Island, died. God took him peacefully at his home in Middletown, on Friday January 26, 2007. He was 84 years old. An avid sailor and sportsman and devoted husband, he is survived by his loving wife Jonna, children Emily Stribling and William Chewning, three step-children, Scott and Patrick Wood- Prince, and William Hernstadt. A niece Donna Richardson and his nephew Donald Richardson. Mr. Chewning had four grandchildren, Alexander Mantel, William, Ashton and Caroline Chewning. He attended St. Alban's School in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Yale University after by serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Chewning served on various boards including the Newport Preservation Society of Newport County, Newport Art Museum, and The Phillips Collection of Washington, D.C. He held memberships at the New York Yacht Club, Metropolitan Club, The Casino Club of Chicago, Spouting Rock Beach Association, Newport Country Club, Clambake Club, and the Newport Reading Room. A Memorial Service will be held June 15, 2007, at St. Columba, the Berkeley Memorial Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Avenue in Middletown, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Chewning's memory to the Potter League for Animals. P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
