Eileen Slater Obituary

Eileen Slater

Palm City, FL

Eileen Slater, 74, passed away on September 16, 2018 in Stuart, FL after a brave battle with cancer. She was born in New Jersey, on Christmas Eve 1943, to first generation Americans Theresa and Albert Slater.

An extremely intelligent and accomplished woman, Eileen earned degrees in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill, and in Clinical Psychology from East Carolina University.

She had a strong, independent and empathetic spirit, which led her to a life of helping those in need. Whether it was animals or people, she always found a way to make a difference.

In her adopted hometown of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Eileen was an active member of the Oak Ridge Playhouse as well as the local Humane Society. With her sister, Anne, she co-founded NOAH, an animal rescue sanctuary, as well as NOAH'S ARK, a fundraising store.

In 2012, Eileen established Trail's End Farm in Palm City, Florida, where she would achieve her lifelong dream of learning how to ride a horse. In 2016, she retired to Florida and continued her profound commitment to animal advocacy.

While Eileen is best known for her unyielding support of animal welfare, she also had a profound influence on the people in her life. Her dear niece, Terry Frank, posted this sentiment upon Eileen's passing:

Today it is with a broken heart I share that my aunt Eileen passed away. Cancer won. I am so very crushed. I am broken. I know my Grandma is welcoming her now. But I now have a void that cannot be replaced. She was a major part of my life. She was always my safe place to go. She was my guardian angel. She was my protectress. She taught me to be a strong woman and to try, try, try. She didn't stop when I got married, when I had children. No, she became their protectors, too. Their teachers. She loved my husband like her son, my children like her children. She loved my animals like her animals. Compassion for all creatures. She had a magical way of reaching out to those who were the most vulnerable-whether they were people or animals. She loved them all. And she taught others to love the vulnerable. She cared about the world in so many ways. Eileen, you will be terribly, terribly missed. I was not at all ready for you to go. I love you.
