James Joy Obituary

JAMES F. JOY Age 69 Gifted Communicator Lover of Life Jim Joy, whose career spanned multiple continents and whose life spawned worlds of love and admiration, succumbed to melanoma and died peacefully in Vero Beach, FL on October 2, 2006. Mr. Joy was a Senior Managing Director of European Business Development for CVC Capital Partners Limited based in Luxembourg, with an integrated European network of 12 offices. He joined CVC in 1989 and was based in Paris for many years. Formerly a Citigroup subsidiary until 1993, CVC is now an independent leveraged buyout group that has acquired over 220 companies in Europe. Mr. Joy built and was responsible for North American Investor Relations for CVC. Mr. Joy was a long-time director of First Republic Bank based in San Francisco, CA, and a long-standing member of the National Leadership Council for Communities in Schools, the nation's leading communitybased, charitable organization helping young people stay in school and prepare for life, based in Alexandria, VA. Previously, Mr. Joy was chairman of Real Estate Research Corporation, Chicago, Managing Director of Thomson McKinnon Securities, New York, and a General Partner of W.E. Hutton & Co, New York. Mr. Joy was raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. He spent most of his adult life working in New York City and Paris, and raised his family in Rumson, New Jersey. He graduated from Hotchkiss School in Connecticut in 1955, he earned a B.S. in 1959 and a B.S.E.E. in 1960 from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and he received a Masters in Business Administration from New York University in 1964. Lovingly known to his grandchildren as "JJ", he loved life and lived it to his fullest. In his death he showed the same spirit of love, determination and courage that his friends and family will remember always. He leaves behind Michael, his loving wife of 42 years, of Vero Beach, FL, his three daughters Whitney Cathcart, Merrill Slaugh and Ashley Wood, all of Ross, CA, and five grandchildren. Jim will be forever missed and loved. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006 at 11:00am at Community Church of Vero Beach, Florida.
