John Steiner Obituary

John A. Steiner

Vero Beach, FL

John A. Steiner, 73, of Vero Beach, FL died suddenly of heart failure on Jan. 2nd, 2018, at his Fairfax, VA residence where he and his wife spend Christmas every year with their family.

John was born to John and Marie Steiner on April 3rd, 1944, in Jacksonville, FL. His family moved often as he was growing up, but he spent his formative years in St. Louis. He graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1962. He received his BS in Mathematics from St. Louis University in 1966 and his MBA from University of Toronto in 1968. After his studies he served two tours in Vietnam as an officer in USAF as a navigator and electronic warfare officer on B52s and was a two-time recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Between his two tours, he met his wife to be, Dianne, in North Dakota. Shortly after his 2nd tour ended he and Dianne were married in 1975 in Northern Virginia. He and Dianne raised 3 children in Fairfax, VA. During that same time frame, John started his highly successful career as a consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). He retired as a partner in the firm in 2001 after more than 25 years with the company.

While John was dedicated to his work, he was also an ardent and loving family man, eschewing many hobbies in order to focus on his children. Even in his retirement, he was never a man of leisure, constantly working on his homes (Vero Beach, Fairfax, VA & Park Rapids, MN) and helping friends and family with financial/business advice. He and Dianne golfed a couple of times a week.

John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dianne. He is also survived by his 3 children: Kent of Annandale, VA; Justin of Orlando, FL; & Heather of Oakton, VA. Additionally, he is survived by his 3 younger siblings, James Steiner, Susan Turner and Christina Shea.

A visitation is scheduled for 01/15/2018 at 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. It is located at 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Guiding Eyes For the Blind, a charity that helps provide seeing eye dogs for the visually impaired. John & Dianne got involved with organization when raising a puppy for the program.

To all the family. I worked with John for several years in New York and the USA. He mentored me and built my confidence to become a successful business man and how to be a good person. If I had a problem, I always knew I could go to John for advice and support. God will bless John. My true sympathy to your family for the loss of a great man. Jerry Titus

We were so saddened by the passing of our Uncle John. We are unable to be at the memorial service for him today but we want you to know that he was a very special person to us and we will miss him. We know we were blessed because he was a part of our lives. We have so many good memories of him both in Florida and especially at the lake in Minnesota. No one enjoyed the dessert time of our family meals more than Uncle John. He will always have a special place in our hearts.

We are long time next door neighbors to John. All through the years we have happily aided one another by doing small favors when needed. We were so thankful when John removed the snow from our driveway.

Our relationship and friendship is very strong.
We pray his wife and children will be comforted as they recall joyful times spent together with John. God bless

We were young when we met in Southeast Asia but remained friends over the years. Will miss the emails and Christmas cards.
You will be missed.

John will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. John was our neighbor in Vero Beach for many years. John was a good man, always friendly, always smiling, always optimistic, and always helpful.

Johns military service was nothing short of heroic (he never talked about this); his business career was stellar. And his devotion to family was obvious. But with all these impressive accomplishments, John, to his credit, was a humble man.

There was a lot to like about John A. Steiner. We count ourselves among the lucky ones who benefited from knowing him. John will be missed. May he rest in eternal peace.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to you, Dianne, and your entire family. May your pain of loss soon be replaced by wonderful and enduring memories of John.

Dianne,I worked with John in Phoenix, Ft Lauderdale and New York for several years. He was wonderfully focused on his client and on his people - a model for others. Through it all his family was paramount. John is sadly missed. My best to you and your family.

Dianne,

Oh so many rhubarb pies and killer cake desserts with you and John. We played too many golf games to count with you and John that we will never forget. So many dinners we shared with the two of you and all the political discussions we had with your John will always be remembered. We could always rely on John to provide advice on a variety of subjects; his advice will be sorely missed. We love you, John, for all the fun and companionship we had over the many years. We miss you and think of you and your influence on our lives. We had so much in common and feel very blessed to have had you in our lives. We remember all this and more as we write this message with tears in our eyes.

Dianne, we want you to know that we will always be here for you and your kids and look forward to continuing to spend time with you as you move forward from this very difficult time in your life.

With Love,
Lila and Glenn Prigge (Dianne's sister and brother-in-law)

Rest In Peace my big brother. You left too soon. So many memories from you finding my first job grading college math questions at the University of Toronto (while in high school) to calling out Coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs while in a traffic jam. You were loving and supportive of your family- including your little sister. You will be missed. Love, Chris
