Kenneth Jennings Obituary

KENNETH J. JENNINGS Kenneth J. Jennings, 88, of Vero Beach, FL passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 at his home. Ken was born February 22, 1919, in Poughkeepsie, NY to Harry and Sarah Cantwell Jennings. On December 14, 1942, he married A. Marjorie Schlimmer at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie,NY. Ken was a graduate of Wappingers Central School and a veteran of WW II, serving in the 7th Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he spent 17 years working at the Lockwood Dutchess Bleachery in Wappingers Falls, NY and then worked as a technician for Texaco in Glenham, NY before retiring with 23 years of service. He was a parishioner at St. Helen Church in Vero Beach and a member of VFW Post 5913, American Legion Post 427, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1646; and was active in many organizations including Boy Scouts, St. Mary's CYO, Little League, Senior Little League and Hudson Valley Rookie League, leading his 1963 Senior Little League all star team to a NY State championship, and was honored by the Dutchess County Oldtimers Baseball Hall of Fame. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie; a daughter, Eileen Hills of DeRuyter, NY; a son and daughter in law, Kenneth J. and Kathleen Jennings, Jr. of Vero Beach and Wappingers Falls; grandchildren and spouses, Ellen and Craig Gander of Wappingers Falls, NY; Elizabeth and Robert Prevelige of Milford, MA; Andrew and Laurel Jennings of Seattle, WA; Michelle and Eric Sattler of Baldwinsville, NY; Allyson Hurlbert of Powhatan, VA; Denise and Shane Pannozo of DeRuyter, NY; Michael and Heather Hills of Edgecomb, ME; and great grandchildren, Leandra Hurlbert; Kayleigh, Kyra and Derek Sattler; Grace and Anna Prevelige, Lily and Elyse Gander, and Hannah Hills. He is also survived by sisters, Jeannette Tetrault of Wappingers Falls, Helen Bradley of Vero Beach and Elizabeth Rogers of Rosamond, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Mildred Rogers and Emma Linge and brothers Orville and Joseph Kettle. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will take place at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida. Condolences may be sent through www.seawindsfh.com/obit.php []
