Marion McGuffey Obituary

Marion Elnora Stutz McGuffey

Port St. Lucie - Marion Elnora Stutz McGuffey, 86, passed away from cancer on February 24, 2021, two months before her 87th birthday. She passed away in her home in Port St. Lucie, Florida and is survived by her husband, James Lawrence McGuffey. Marion is survived by two brothers, Robert Stutz and Francis Stutz. Her sister Kary Jensen predeceased her.

She is also survived by her four sons and their spouses, James and Ann McGuffey, Douglas and Catherine McGuffey, Bradley and Michelle McGuffey, Bruce and Pam McGuffey, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her extended family includes five nieces and nephews.

Marion was born in Atchison, Kansas on April 25, 1934 to Francis and Lois Stutz, and the family soon moved to southern California where she spent her childhood. She attended UCLA where she met James McGuffey and they wed on August 14, 1954. The couple moved to Europe and then throughout the United States with James' Air Force assignments.

Marion loved raising her family wherever the family moved, and also enjoyed painting in her free time and socializing with her many friends. She has worked at various careers in the many locations they have lived, including the marketing department at Martin Memorial Hospital after the couple moved to Martin County in 1982. She was an active member of the Stuart Arts Council and volunteered with Helping People Succeed. Marion and James continued their love of travel and embarked on many cruises and land trips throughout the world and have visited all seven continents.

Those wishing to send their regards may do so at The Hospice of the Treasure Coast.

I am so sorry to hear of Marions passing. I was a first cousin to Marion. There were eleven girl Stutz cousins and now I am the only one left. Uncle (Shorty) Francis and my Dad Reidel were brothers. Marion and I always kept in touch with Christmas cards and letters each year.

The world is kinder and gentler because our wonderful Marion graced it. Her spirit lives on in all of us who had the gift of knowing her.
