Matthew Brown Obituary

Matthew Barclay Brown Jr., 87, died March 31, 2013, at home. He was born in Louisiana and raised in Texas. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the diving team. He worked in chemical sales, advertising and real estate throughout the Mid- Atlantic and New England states. He was a print and television model in the 1960s, making an appearance in the grand hall of New York City's Grand Central Station as the "Tareyton Man I'd Rather Fight Than Switch." Survivors include his wife, Pamet Ward Brown; daughters, Diane Buck of Vero Beach, Laura Cecala of Maryland, Jesse Sohmer of Massachusetts and Loren Zumbach of Tennessee; sons, George Brown and Matthew Brown, both of Connecticut, Adam Brown and Bruce Seely, both of Vermont, Christopher Seely and Paul Johnson, both of Massachusetts, Jonathan Seely of Rhode Island and Michael Johnson of Hawaii; sisters, Sharon Moore and Vicky Brown, both of Kansas; brothers; and 30 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ellen Mertens Brown; and son, Kyle Barclay Brown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast Inc., 4100 S.W. Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City, FL 34990. Services: A memorial service will be 11 a.m. April 13 at St. John the Evangelist, Duxbury, Mass. Arrangements are by All County Funeral Home & Crematory of Stuart.
