Paul Miner Obituary

MAJOR PAUL B. MINER, III Major Paul B. Miner, III, died August 21, 2007 in Ft. Bragg, NC. A native of Vero Beach, Florida, Major Paul Burton Miner III served our country for twelve years in both the Navy and Army. His two years in the USN included duty aboard the USS Richard E Byrd DDG-23. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Upon graduation in 1997, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Army's Medical Service Corps. Major Miner's service in the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIIIth Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, NC spanned a variety of positions including Medical Platoon Leader in the 3-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment and Divisional Support Operations Officer and Assistant Division G4 Plans Officer for the 82d Airborne Division. In 2002 Major Miner deployed to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom as a C4 Logistical Plans Officer with Coalition Task Force 82. He deployed again in 2004 to Iraq as commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 46th Corps Support Group, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Returning to Fort Bragg in 2005, Major Miner was the commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the Airborne and Special Operations Test Directorate and was also serving as the Officer in Charge of the Aerial Delivery and Rigging Branch. Major Miner's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with 1 OLC, Army Commendation Medal with 1 OLC, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Ribbon with Star Device, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Campaign Medal, Combat Action Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and the Parachute Rigger Badge. Major Paul B. Miner III is survived by his wife, Captain Kerry Anne Miner of Ft. Bragg, NC; sons, Paul B. Miner IV and Joseph K. Miner, by his step-parents, Mr. Robert W. and Suzanne M. Egan of Vero Beach, FL; brothers John J. Miner of Los Angles, CA and Robert W. Egan, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Marcella M. Egan of Seattle, WA, Kathleen N. Johnson and Christine J. Johnson both attending Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. Major Miner was preceded in death by his father, Paul B. Miner, Jr. and mother Patricia Egan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am, Satruday, September 1, 2007 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach Vero Beach. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach at 12:30 p.m. with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the College Foundation of North Carolina account established for Paul's sons at the following, www.cfn.org/site/savings/main/for ms.jsp or to the charity of ones choice in memory of Major Paul B. Miner, III Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home Vero Beach.
