My condolences to Mrs. Broome and the Broome Family. I worked with Pete at Broome & Farina from 1973 to 1979. He and his partner John were my mentors. I am grateful to have benefited from Pete's knowledge, integrity, humor, and leadership. In 1980 I opened my own company with a fellow B&F alumni and patterned it after B&F. We continue to extend his legacy.

Even though my mom and dad came from two different places, they met each other while volunteering as summer youth councilors with the Methodist church. They have been true Christians that embrace and practice their faith every day of their lives. My dad has done so many things for so many people in his life, it would be hard to list everything. While I was growing up, he coached church league baseball, taught Sunday school, and worked on many committees for the church. When my dad retired, and my parents moved to Stuart, they continued to help people by delivering meals on wheels for well over 15 years. As long as he was able, he would do anything he could to help others, whether they were family, or total strangers.
My dad was one of the smartest people I have ever met. He loved to read, whether it was his daily newspaper, a financial journal, or the many novels he finished. He had such varied interests, he seemed to know a little bit about everything. He also had a great sense of humor. Even though he was my father and had to discipline us if we did do something bad, he was also our friend that we could kid around with and have fun with. I have learned so much from my dad that there is not enough time to mention it all. One of the ways my dad would relax when he got home was to tend to his vegetable garden. When I was young, I would help him spade up the soil, where you dig into the dirt and turn the weeds under, into the ground. For this, he gave me a small portion of the garden to plant what I wanted to plant, and take care of. I got from my dad, his love of gardening and interest in science, and used that when I decided to have a plant nursery 28 years ago. Since then, I have worked to save endangered species of plants all over the world, written articles, and have been a President of an international plant society. I attribute everything I have done to what I have learned from my dad, and I have tried to be a person he would be proud of.
Throughout my life, dad supported me with everything I have ever wanted to do. It didn't matter if it was one of my many hobbies, or playing in the band. He put me through college and was happy for me when I decided to start the nursery. Any time I have needed help, he was there to do what he could.

Before I moved to Lakeland, I worked for my father at his engineering company. For the first time, I got to see him in the outside world. He was good to his employees and was well liked by everyone I met. People I didn't know would come up to me and tell me how great they thought my dad was. It didn't matter whether it was an employee, a client, or just someone he meet along the way, everyone seemed to love my dad.
I couldn't have asked for a better dad, and mom for that matter. I am privileged to have had Peter Broome as a father and role model. He lived a long, happy life, and along the way, touched so many people's lives. The world has been made a better place because Pete Broome was part of it. He will be missed, but I will cherish the memories I have of him, and how he has enriched my life.

How very blessed I have been to have had Peter H. Broome for my father in law. I love and admire him more than words could ever express, but I will try. He is one of the finest gentleman I have ever known. Both of his sons also have that same attribute. The memories of his warm smile and laughter will remain in my heart forever. His generosity, sincerity, integrity and strong faith has left an imprint on everyone who has known him. I learned so very much from him. Something I will especially remember is that he never missed a chance to tell the people that he loved, how very much he loved them. Not only once or twice a day but many, many times a day. It wasn't enough to Pete that the people he loved already knew he loved them, but he made sure to tell them he loved them, very often. I have loved that about him and I will terribly miss that. I say a special Thank You to The Good Lord for giving me the best father in law anyone could ever imagine. I feel the same way about my mother in law, brother in law, and husband. What an honor it is to be part of the Broome family. I will cherish Peter Broome forever.

My cousin Pete, I loved him. I was a nine year old boy when Pete returned home from World War II. A knock came to the door I raced to open it and there stood my cousin Pete Broome. He was in his uniform and he looked so tall and handsome to me. He was immediately my hero of the century. At once, I knew i had to emulate him. He would take me on walks, he would hit baseballs to me so I could practice catching flys. He told great tales that held my attention. It was from him I first heard Fee fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman from the tale of Jack in the beanstalk. He told this story so well. I grew old enough to be a soldier and became a paratrooper like Pete. I even served at one time in the same regiment of the 101st Airborne. I never stopped loving him and only circumstances kept me from seeing him often. My mother loved Pete like a son perhaps now that they are both in heaven, they can laugh together once more. My condolences to Winnie, David, Tom and Cindy.

Stay in the graces of God. My love to you

Dear Aunt Winnie, Tom, Cindy, & David,

Uncle Pete was the BEST uncle & constant source of smiles whenever I was in his presence. He was always expressing his appreciation to everyone he knew. I never heard an "ill word" about anyone pass his lips....except when his baseball team wasn't winning. :)

I will miss him very much, but will honor his memory by continuing to share his story...of love with Aunt Winnie & for his sons.

Your cousin,

Ellen :)

The Broome Family,

My name is George Shahood and I practiced law in Dania, Broward County Florida from 1968 to 1978. During part of that time I represented Broome and Farina, Consulting Engineers.

I knew Peter and John very well and admired Peter very much.

I was appointed to the trial court bench in 1978 by Governor Ruben Askew and and later elevated to the Court of Appeals and retired in 2009.

I always thought very highly of Peter and would like to extend my deepest sympathy to his family.

God bless you and your entire family.

George A. Shahood
Senior Judge, Fourth District Court of Appeal.
