Prior to Terry's TV show, I knew nothing whatsoever about watercolor...except that I knew I had to learn how to paint with watercolor!
I always looked forward to watching and learning from Terry Madden's Watercolor Workshop TV program! I met Terry and Judy when they visited where I live and the watercolor group to which I belonged hosted their workshop. I was delighted to meet them in person, after having been in contact with them regarding the workshop plans. Before that all occurred, I watched Terry's TV show regularly, which helped me greatly to advance in watercolor! I've been an avid watercolorist since that beginning and have also taught classes locally.

I took 3 workshops from Terry and got to know him well through my Terry Madden instructor. During his two workshops in TOledo, OH, I helped he and Judy set up for the workshops. I always enjoyed his enthusiasm, and his happy accidents, of which I've had in my own painting. I'm saddened to discover he has passed. Now he can "help" God paint the sunsets and the sunrises, with his right hand firmly stuck in his pants pocket. May his memory be eternal

Like many, Terry was a great influence on me with watercolor painting. I began watching him on PBS and then I took two of his workshops where I also met Judy. Two truly wonderful people! I am saddened to hear that both have passed and send my love to his family. You were blessed to have such wonderful leaders in your family.

I had the distinct privilege of meeting Terry at the annual sidewalk Art Festival in Portland, Maine one gorgeous August afternoon many years ago in the 1970's. I was strolling with my friend who owned a store on Congress St and I spotted a painting Terry had just done of his storefront. I said to my friend; "If you don't buy it, I will". It hangs in my hallway to this day.
He became my inspiration to paint and I will always cherish his memory. He was a light on this planet that we see too few of today.

Wow I don't know what to say. Guess they be needing some watercolor artist in Heaven. I came across one of his books in my library tonight and wondered where He was. Now I know. The good thing is that when you have Christ in your heart, there is no real goodbye...just see ya later. =)

I never had the opportunity to meet Terry or Judy, but I have spent many hours watching and rewatching his wonderful videos. I first bought several of his videos on sale and could not get enough from those few, so I bought all that I could of his wonderful videos. His wit and talent will be greatly missed, I would have bought more or all of his videos if they had been available. He and the late Bob Ross gave hope to many who thought that they could not paint whether it was watercolor or oil. Their talent and legacy will be missed.

My husband and I had the great pleasure of knowing Terry and Judy. We were fortunate to have displayed his paintings in our Florida gallery. He was so enthusiastic about painting and conveyed that energy to his students. I sat in one of his classes where I saw first-hand, a group of 30-40 students hanging on to his every word and brush stroke. He truly was amazing. We met with him and Judy right before they moved to Pennsylvania, we were sad to see them leave. Filled with that wonderful spirit, they were upbeat moving nearer family and starting a new journey of their lives. Our blessings and thoughts go out to his family.

So very sorry to hear we lost one the best watercolor artists and teachers, ever! Terry was the one who inspired me most, I've learned so very much from him, I love how he taught and that boost of confidence when he said, "You Can Do This!"! He will forever be an active element in my paintings as well as in my heart.

I never knew Mr. Madden, but I always enjoyed his PBS program. He seemed like a wonderful man, and I offer my condolences to all of his family and friends. May God not only comfort you in your time of grieving, but may He also encourage you with the knowledge that those who call on Jesus' Holy Name as Lord and Savior will not die, but live forever.

Terry's positive encouragement and contagious enthusiasm inspired me to pursue watercolor fearlessly as a single mother 16 years ago. I was fortunate to be a Madden Certified Teacher as one of 'Terry's Tertiaries' and hear his wisdom and advice to this day. He and Judy continue to be a blessing. Sending love to his children, family and friends.

May God bless you in this time of sorrow. Terry made quite an impression on me and I was fortunate to take two watercolor workshops when we lived in Florida. He will be missed by all those who knew him in person as well as his PBS watercolor workshop audience. He will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. Terry is the one who got me started in watercolor. He made it look like so much fun. I have all of his books and took many workshops with him and Judy by his side. He shall be greatly missed.

There are no words we can convey that will make your loss easier. We are all blessed and better for having him in our area. He was an inspiration as a person in addition to being a great talent. I have a small water color that I love and fills me with serenity each time I see it. His work will live on and continue to make people smile. Thank you for sharing him with us.
