Brian Price Obituary

Brian passed away in University Place, WA on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born to Floyd and Christina Price in Longview, WA and grew up with his younger sister Ardyce. Brian graduated from R. A. Long High School and continued his education at Lower Columbia College and Pacific Lutheran (College) University in Tacoma. He went on to receive his Master's in School Administration from the University of Oregon. After college he married his high school sweetheart Jane (Farley) Price. Brian was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

During his high school years, Brian was a well-rounded student participating in school plays, playing in concert band, and competing in baseball and football. For his efforts he was inducted into the R.A. Long and Lower Columbia College Athletic Hall of Fame. In his career, Brian taught at Park Rose in Portland for five years before returning to Longview to take a teaching job at Monticello Junior High. Brian wore many hats teaching PE, health, math and history. He also coached basketball, football, and track and field. One job he might not have enjoyed as much, was his time supervising the lunchroom! He cared deeply about his students, whether it was in the classroom, on the court, or on the field, Brian was there with positive encouragement.

Beyond the halls, Brian served as a basketball and football referee for 50+ years and a starter for local track meets. He played softball on the Taco Time team for many years which included post-game celebrations at Taco Time for dinner! He also enjoyed his time at the Shamrock with his referee group. Brian also volunteered with the Special Olympics participating in many events throughout Cowlitz County.

Brian's family and friends meant the world to him. He loved watching his children, Greg and Leslie, participate in their respective sports throughout the years. During their college years, they made many trips to PLU or away games to watch Greg, play football and Leslie, play field hockey. They didn't miss many games! Brian was also very proud of his grandkids. He and Jane attended many activities that the grandkids participated in. Whether it was baseball and attending spring training, softball and volleyball games, football games, track meets, and musical theater, they were always there.

Brian is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jane; his son Greg (Wendy); daughter Leslie (Bob); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tara (Ryan), Brian (Amy), Scott (Shanley) and Madison; and great-grandchildren, Danica, Declan, Clark, Reagan and Jaxson. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mike (Sandy) Farley; nephews Randy Carey, John (Brenda) Carey, and Bob Farley; nieces, Karen Farley (Phil Duff), and Vicky (Richard) Cramer. Also, eight great nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family members.

Brian was incredibly proud of his family and the achievements of others. Always there to lend an ear, ask curious questions, and express his genuine interest in the wellness of his family and friends, he meant so much to so many! Brian touched everyone around him with his wisdom, kindness, teachings, and charisma. He had an amazing 92 years, and we will carry his memory in our hearts forever.

Yesterday

I was in junior high at Monticello where Coach Price brought our teams to victory so many times. We were unstoppable with Mr. Price at the helm. It was never the same after he left. Rest in peace.
