Claudia Hunter Obituary
February 23, 1944 - October 9, 2024
Longtime local Silver Lake resident Claudia Marie Hunter died on October 9, 2024, at the age of 80, in Longview, Washington.
Claudia was born on 23 February 1944 to Claude and Virginia (Jokela) Hunter in Longview, Washington. Claudia attended schools in Toutle and Castle Rock before moving to California and graduating from James Lick High School in 1962. She went on to get her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree from the University of Puget Sound and her Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
After proudly serving in the US Army, she was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Major. She went to work for Boeing, Boeing Information Services, SAIC, and then St. John's Hospital. Claudia obtained her real estate broker's license and co-founded Southgate Real Estate with her father, Claude.
Claudia is survived by her sister, Candace S. Hunter, Silver Lake, and brother, Calvin P. Hunter, Chewelah. She was close to her nieces, Kember (Chism) Helenius, Lahti, Finland, and Sundi Rae (Martin) Marquez, Hermiston, OR, and her nephew Rocky Hunter of La Grande, OR. She also had a special relationship with her grand-niece, Kristiina Chism, Norris, MT. Claudia made long-lasting relationships through the years; among her closest friends were Nikki (Kretz) Benjamin of Toutle and Alice (Petrovich) Vanlandingham of Virginia.
Claudia was a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at Post 10882 in Toutle, WA. She was a member of the Silver Lake Grange. She was proud to belong to the pioneer Huntington family and built her house on the original homestead of her Mangs family in Silver Lake.
Claudia loved to read, listen to old-time radio, and play solitaire. She enjoyed sitting in her office in Silver Lake and looking at Mt. St. Helens. She traveled the world, visited all 50 states, and encouraged others to follow their dreams.
A Celebration of Life will be held on 28 December 2024 at the Toutle Valley VFW Post 10882 at 101 Hansen Road in Toutle at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome.

Claudia and I met in high school and she was my best friend for 60+ years. She was the best friend any one could ask for, and was always there in time of need. She is missed very much, and I'll always remember all the wonderful times we had together. I miss you, Claudia..........Love, Alice

Just learned of Claudia's passing and want to express my condolences to her family. Claudia and I have been friends for many years, even roommates at one point. She surprised me with a visit here in Bluffton, SC a few years ago. I will never, ever forget her.
