John Hopkins Obituary

John F. Hopkins, aged 60, passed away on September 24, 2025, after a 3-year battle with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer. John was born in Longview, WA on January 15, 1965, to John (Scottie) and Catherine Hopkins. He was raised on Peardale Lane along with his brothers, Mark & Pat Hopkins and his baby sister Heather (Hopkins) Johnson. John was a proud member of the Mark Morris Class of 1983.

John began his working career at Bruno's Pizza and then when he was 19, he began work at Kalama Chemical, medically retiring in 2023 after 39 years with the company. In 1990 he met his future wife, Lynne (Gorley) Hopkins. They in turn had 2 children, Alexandra (Hopkins) Montes and Dylan John Hopkins.

John enjoyed so many things in his life but mostly he liked visiting with anybody and everybody. He was outgoing socially and never met a stranger. John's ultimate passion was cooking for EVERYBODY. His kids jokingly called him "The Food Pusher". It wasn't uncommon for his son to have a house full of kids spend the night and John would be up bright and early making them all a full breakfast. In his house you ate whether you wanted to or not. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, going to concerts and listening to great Rock & Roll music.

John is survived by his wife, Lynne, his children and their spouses Alex & Saulo Montes and Dylan and Joanna Hopkins, his mother and father Cathie and Scottie Hopkins, his brother Mark Hopkins, his brother Pat & Nikki Hopkins and his sister Heather & Marc Johnson, his grandsons, Adam, Fin and Dax Montes and his granddaughter Dylan Marie Hopkins. As well as his nephews Conner and Clay Hopkins and his niece Brianna Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held on October 11th, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Steele Funeral Chapel at Mt. Solo and then a get together at 4 p.m. at the Shamrock Tavern for one last Budweiser!
