Judith Wood Obituary
Judy Wood of Longview died peacefully in her sleep on February 8, 2024. She was born January 6, 1940 in Portland, Oregon to Pete and Mary (Messler) Nehl. She moved to Longview, WA in 1952, attended St. Rose Catholic School and St. Mary's Academy, and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1958.
Judy enjoyed beach vacations, methodical "antiquing", collecting glassware and jewelry, designing theater costumes for LCC, working in her son's furniture store, and volunteering at St. Rose Catholic Church and school. Her love for her husband and six children remained unwavering through all of life's ups and downs. We have especially fond memories of the magical holidays she created for our family, along with the best spaghetti sauce and potato salad in the whole world! She also taught her family patience and compassion along with an appreciation for beauty, creativity and the arts. Judy was the singular Queen Bee of her family, and in retirement she very much enjoyed relaxing, putting up her feet and watching the world go by.
Judy met "Nicky", her one true love, in 7th grade at St. Rose Catholic School and knew he was the one. Nick and Judy married in 1959 and ultimately raised six children together, sending all six through the same Catholic school where they met. Judy is survived by her daughter and son, Christina and Kevin Wood, along with son-in-in-law Paul Rawlins, and daughters-in-law, Dionna Wood and Yvonne Enrico. She also leaves behind five grandchildren (Nicholas and Theisen Chang; Dylan and Nathan Wood; and Cassandra Effingham), four great-grandchildren (Samantha, Maverick, Lincoln and Tatum), Wayne Nehl (brother), Patty Steinbeck (sister), and numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces. She was reunited in death with her husband and four beloved sons, Brian, Gregory, David and Peter, and her brother Bruce.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for February 22nd at 10:30 am at St. Rose Catholic Church, 2571 Nichols Blvd., Longview, WA.
