Matthew Westman

March 2, 1955 - October 7, 2025

Matthew Frederick Westman, 70, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2025. He was born on March 2, 1955, in Longview, Washington.

Matt is survived by his wife, Betsy; his siblings, Tuni and Tom; his three children, Chris (39), Emily (38), and Taylor (33); his grandchildren, Harper (9), Caleb (3), and Serena (1). His legacy of compassion, humor, and quiet strength will continue to live on through them.

Matt is defined by a deep sense of humanity and compassion, especially those who were often unseen or in need. He was also passionate about athletics, spending much of his free time playing basketball and cycling. His kindness and empathy touched countless lives, and left a lasting impact on his community and all who knew him.

A private memorial will be held by the family to celebrate his life and the many ways he made the world a little kinder. He will be deeply missed, and will be forever remembered for his love, generosity, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people.

Yesterday

this note comes from Tom Pulliam now living in Winston Salem NC - I came here in 1980 to attend med school

first of all, Matt was a really great older brother to so many of us including me - Tom W was my peer and everything written in Matt´s obituary rings absolutely true in my heart

no surprise to me that he went on to live and love as he did

it is too true that only the good do die young - an ongoing quibble that I have with The Spirit in The Sky

my only comfort is that I now know another angel in heaven

peace and comfort to all of Matt´s great friends and family,

Me TJP - RA Long HS (1976)
