Richard Gene "Dick" Schaafsma

Richard "Dick" Gene Schaafsma, 66, of Castle Rock, passed away May 9, 2005 in Ocean Park, Washington. He was born February 1, 1939 in Castle Rock the son of Wiebe & Jeanette Schaafsma. He lived in the local area his entire life.On January 2, 1959 he married Karen Lampitt in Kelso. She survives him at home. He is also survived by two daughters, Tammy Jensen of Castle Rock and Kimberly Lemmons of Toledo; son, Richard E. Schaafsma of North Dakota; three grandsons, Robby Strain of North Dakota, Ricky Strain of Longview and Ray Lemmons of Toledo; two granddaughters, Addie Weismiller of Toledo and Christina Strain of Castle Rock; a great granddaughter, Chloie Jackson of Castle Rock; sister, Louise Kluth of Moses Lake, Washington; and two brothers, Louise Schaafsma of Redway, California and Le Roy Schaafsma of Castle Rock.He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill & Ray; and sister, Thelma Hill.Dick worked as a Weyco log truck driver where his nickname was "U-wood" or "Scuzzy". He retired in 1998. He was a member of the Aarp, Eagles and Ambassador Club. Dick enjoyed clamming, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, going to Reno

& the Lucky Eagle Casino and going to the beach.Dick was happy-go-lucky, twinkly, full of fun and sweet. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and good friend that anyone could have. He would help anyone who needed him, especially his wife & family, and truly enjoyed doing so. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Castle Rock Full Gospel Church with Art Aldridge officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Larry & Kim Lemmons, 484 Smokey Valley Rd. in Toledo. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
