Adam Goodspeed Obituary

Adam S. Goodspeed, 36

GRAFTON - Adam S. Goodspeed, 36, passed away May 18, 2017 following injuries sustained from an auto accident. He leaves his parents Nancy (Pocius) and Stephen Goodspeed, his sister Sarah Glispin and her husband Brian, his grandmother Rita Pocius, his former wife Jennifer (Contois) his newest little buddy and niece, Haley Glispin, and several cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his "boy" Sombo, his beloved German Shepherd. Adam was born April 14, 1981 in Worcester, MA and spent his life in Grafton and Rangeley, Maine. If you knew Adam then you knew that Rangeley was his second home and the lake was his church. From an early age, Adam forged a bond with nature that would define happiness and peace throughout his life. His work ethic was built in the hayfields of Knowlton Dairy Farm next door to his home where he worked long days as a boy and continued as he went into business as a landscaper in Grafton where he built a reputation for exceeding the expectations of his customers. He was an accomplished bow hunter having traveled to Canada and Colorado to hunt, he mastered fly fishing at an early age and when he was a true sportsman at heart, always showing reverence to the animals and the world around him. If you needed something built or fixed Adam was always there to save you time and money by doing it himself. For the circle that truly knew and loved him his loyalty and authenticity were never questioned. Adam had a great love of dogs and was always able to build trust with them even if others could not. His German Shepherd Dog Sombo had an imposing presence, but was the sweetest pup in the world once Adam gave him a stern "it's ok boy".

Adam will be missed most for his sharp humor, his love of family, and selfless nature. Please honor Adam with a memorial donation in lieu of flowers to Timber Ridge Farm c/o Nancy Goodspeed PO Box 353 Grafton, MA 01519. All are welcome to gather with Adam's family and friends Wednesday May 24th from 3pm to 7pm at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., N. Grafton, MA 01536. A Remembrance Service for Adam will be held at the Baptist Church of Grafton, 1 South St., Grafton, MA 01519 on Thursday May 25th at 10:00am. Casual attire requested. Burial will be private at his family's convenience. Please visit a Book of Memories to share a story, photo or memory of Adam online at: www.RoneyFuneralHome.com

We had the good fortune of meeting Adam over 16 years ago and he soon became our go to guy, much to the envy of our friends and neighbors. Even at that young age he reflected values of a time past when a handshake was a bond of trust and a strong work ethic a matter of pride. He not only helped to keep our challenging yard in shape but also built our front porch, put in a brick walk, repaired the most obstinate yard machinery, painted our ceilings, plowed, saved us from a tree on the roof amidst a storm and calmed our frenetic dog with a soft word. Usually pretty quiet, Adam spoke with excitement when we shared stories about local wildlife and other animals. He was clearly intuitive about nature, taking the time to check deer tracks in the snow at our place (his girls he called them), rescuing an abandoned beagle during a trip to Colorado, and, of course, patiently training his clumsy, long-legged sidekick Sombo to become his regal and dedicated companion and love. Adam was a unique and wonderful individual, one gone too soon but a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him. To his family we extend our heart-felt sympathy. Adam was a fine young man and will be greatly missed. Melody Foote and Sylvia Baca.

I met Adam many years ago when we shared the same duck hunting spot. We were both near the end of our teens. He and I shared many great hunts together over the years. Time had us head in different directions, but I'll always remember the good times we had and the passion for the outdoors that we shared. I know when I return to the places that Adam and I hunted I will be thinking of him.I can't begin to put into words how sorry I am for the loss the Goodspeed family has suffered. I hope you can always remember the happiness you all shared together and it brings you comfort.

I HAVE KNOWN ADAM FOR MANY YEARS ----A MAN OF ALL SEASONS A SEASONED BOW HUNTER FISHERMAN AND FRIEND TO ALL. A GREAT LANDSCAPER WHO HELPED ME WITH MANY PROJECTS ON RITTENHOUSE ROAD. I WILL TRULY MISS THIS GREAT MAN AND FRIEND.
I CANNOT BELIEVE HE IS GONE. WE WERE JUST-TALKING ABOUT THE STRIPER FISHING ON THE CAPE WHERE MY WIFE AND I HAVE A HOME IN EASTHAM. I INVITED ADAM TO COME DOWN AND FISH WITH ME A FEW WEEKS AGO.
I MISS YOU ADAM---GOD TAKE CARE OF HIM.

While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. Your recent loss of your beloved Adam whose tragic death at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses.

We ask for God's blessings on your family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence by remembering you do not walk alone.

In deepest sympathy.
