Alexander Stowe Obituary

Alexander Stowe, 89

PRUDENCE, RI - Alexander Charles Stowe, 89, of Prudence Island, RI, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Mr. Stowe was born in Providence RI, the son of Charles and Stasia Chrostowski of Providence, RI.

Mr. Stowe enlisted into the Navy at the age of 17 and served as a member of the 8th Special Battalion USNCB fighting in the Aleutian Islands on the island of Attu during WWII. Mr. Stowe received many commendations for his bravery on the battlefield. Mr. Stowe returned to civilian life and received his B.S. degree from the University of Rhode Island which is where he met his wife, Angela Vuona, of Worcester, MA. He had a varied and successful career in Research and Development at Brown & Sharpe, Monsanto and Owens Illinois. Given his entrepreneurial spirit he eventually owned and operated a plastics company making parts for Milton Bradley and Hasbro Toys. Mr. Stowe subsequently sold his company to pursue his interest of owning a restaurant. He embarked on the second phase of his life, and with his wife established Angela's Restaurant in Worcester, MA. It became an award winning restaurant and city landmark for 25 years.

Mr. Stowe was a true renaissance man and after retiring from the restaurant business, lived his remaining years happily on Prudence Island as an avid artist, writer, fisherman, inventor and entrepreneur. He loved spending time with his family, especially being surrounded by his grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children, son Dr. Christopher Stowe and his wife Amy Stowe of Portsmouth RI, his daughter Dr. Jody Stowe and Partner Carolyn Clark of Basking Ridge, NJ, and daughter Holly Stowe, Esq. and husband Ron Leblanc of Portsmouth, RI; as well as cherished grandchildren Alex Stowe, Emma Stowe, Sophia Stowe-Clark and Austin Stowe-Clark; sister Kay Caroselli and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former spouse Angela Stowe and his brother Stanley Chrostowski.

Calling hours will be at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at Connors Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Stowe's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
