To the Foleys this ia a poem written by Elizabeth Frye in 1903. It gives me
solace when I think about the loved ones I've lost. Especially my sister. And now Brian.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Jim, Deb, Liz and Kathryn,
Please know our thoughts and prayer are with you at such a sad and difficult

God's Lent Child

I'll lend you for a little while a child of mine, God said,
For you to love him while he lives, and mourn for when he's gone.
It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three;
But will you, till I call him back, take good care of him for me?
I'll bring him charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have the lovely memories as a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return;
But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.
I've searched the whole world over, for teachers kind and true;
And from the throngs that crowd life's lane I have chosen you…

To which the parents did reply, Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joys this child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, We'll love him while we may…
For all the love this child will bring, forever grateful we will stay.
But should the Angels call for him much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.

Dear Jim, Debbie, Liz and Kathryn,
It is with great sadness that we hear of the loss of your son and brother Brian. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and heartache you feel. In the natural course of life, we expect to grieve and bury our parents and expect our children will grieve and bury us. But they too must go home and we forget that God may call anyone home at any time once their earthly duties have been discharged. We do not know what God's plan is, nor do we understand it at times. What we do know is that Brian Foley was placed on this earth for a reason. He brought you unbelievable pride and joy that only a son and brother can give. Rely now on those happiest of memories to see you through your anguish. His task is complete, and now he has been called home. These words cannot lessen the pains you feel. A great void now exists where a young man stood. Jimmy, Debbie, Liz and Kathryn, our family is strong and we all grieve with you. Not one of us is as strong as all of us are together and no matter the distance, the bonds of family are an unending source of strength. Hold on to memories for comfort, reach out to family and friends for strength and always remember how much you are cared for. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this trying time.
