Camille Perrone Obituary

Camille Grace (Lamonica) Perrone, 89
Auburn - Camille Grace (Lamonica) Perrone passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13th 2012 in the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence in Worcester.
Camille was born in Shrewsbury, MA, October 21st, 1922; the 12th child of Michael and Grace Lamonica. She grew up in Shrewsbury and Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School. She married Alfred Perrone in 1943. In 1957 the family moved to Paxton where, for many years, they owned and operated Perrone's Purple Heart Café. After retirement, Camille lived in East Harwich, MA and Gulfport, FL, and most recently, Auburn, MA.
Her husband, Al, passed away in 2006. Camille leaves two sons, a daughter, and their spouses: Alfred and Sandra (Giannantonio) Perrone Jr. of Spencer; James and Karen (McManus) Perrone of Leicester, MA and Warwick, RI; and Diane (Perrone) and Ken Mammone of Hardwick. She also leaves three grandchildren: Bianca Mammone, Santo Mammone, and Gina (Mammone) Deibel, and a great-granddaughter, Ajanta Deibel, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Camille will be remembered for her graceful, positive attitude and a tireless readiness to help others. Camille loved life and caring for people. In business, she treated customers as family. Camille listened to others, even strangers, with attention and patience. As a mother, she stressed education and achievement, but never at a cost of humanity.
Camille was charming and sweet, but also intelligent and tough. She set high standards for herself. After graduation from high school, she passed a competitive civil service exam-a source of pride for her immigrant parents. The nightclub-restaurant business was very successful, but demanding. Camille had a tremendous capacity to handle hard work and long hours with grace.
In her leisure time, Camille loved meeting new people and learning new things. She enjoyed cooking and traveling, and was an avid computer enthusiast. One of the joys of her later life was discovering her maternal relatives in Scario, Italy. She had arrived alone in Scario, a tiny fishing village by the sea, with no other information than an old black and white photograph. She asked everyone she saw, in her parents' Italian dialect, "Do you know these people?" And of course, they did. Of all her interests, she most treasured spending time with her family.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday, February 17th 2012 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St, Auburn, MA. There will be a memorial service following calling hours.
The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence or the JHC Hospice, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609. A private burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.

I remember my first visit with Aunt Cam. My brother and I had chicken pox but she still wanted to see us and pinch our cheeks. She was a shining force.

Fred, Jim and Diane,
Your mother will be missed by all who knew her. She was a good friend for more than 60 years.

Fred, Jim and Diane,

As long as I can remember, your mother was always my favorite aunt. Maybe it was her easy laugh or the way she'd squeeze me and tell me stories about my childhood shenanigans--or hers and my mother's. Maybe it was her genuine "I love yous" or the joy she radiated when talking about the LaMonicas. Maybe it was her physical beauty, which time never tarnished. Or the way she gave me a sense of belonging to a large, yet relatively unknown immigrant family.

I always knew your mother was special. That's why as a child, I named my favorite doll after her. That's why it meant so much to me that she gave my mother's eulogy and why I visited her when I was in Florida. She sparkled, she glowed--and in my life, she mattered.

Fred & Sandy, I met your mother in the early 90's. She was a remarkable lady; so loving, kind, interesting, and full of life and humor. She was a joy to be around. Although, I came late into her life as Alice's husband, she always treated me as if I were a charter member of the family. That is very special and I will miss hearing her voice, her laughter, and enjoying lunch at her favorite oriental reataurant in Gulfport. My prayers and thoughts are with your family.
