Chuck Kidd was my friend. I am so grateful that I told him that, many times.
Barely a week prior to Chuck's untimely death, we spent nearly two hours together, in his shop, talking (as always) about a wide range of things. Chuck thanked me for my calls and concerns over his recent surgery; I, in turn, thanked HIM for his solicitations about my own on-going medical problems. We talked of "home" and of homesickness and of how we are both so acutely aware of EXACTLY what those two terms mean. And, as we were parting, Chuck looked at me and smiled that wonderful, warm and genuine smile that told all the world -without pretense and without self-consciousness and without conceit - that he was, truly, A GOOD AND DECENT GUY, and he said: "Don't worry at all about this next surgery of yours: we're both young, tough bucks with a long way to go!"
I believe that God has a stream, or two and a couple of ponds and maybe even a spare ocean in Heaven, for guys like Chuck to paddle around on and just smile at the sheer joy of it all. The sheer joy of going home....
The world is a far lesser place without Chuck and even Heaven is improved by his presence, there.
I miss you, Dear Friend. I am SO grateful, to have had the honor and the privilege, to have called you my friend.... In the pantheon of my heroes, none rank higher than those whom we - and the world - call "friends."
Chuck Kidd was my friend...
As Ever,
Joe Russell

Dear Ann, Nathan and Maggie,
I feel so deeply for your loss. Chuck was a wonderful man. I use to enjoy our many talks at the Mill Frame Shop or when we'd run into one another elsewhere. He was a talented man who always gave 100% in everything he did.

Ann, Nathan, and Maggie,

We have been away from Hardwick for so long, but our m emories of Chuck are as fresh today as they ever were. I think of him often and with great affection. I can't pick up my cameras without having him in my thoughts. He was a profound influence on all those privileged to have known him. I am so very very saddened and sorry.

So sorry to hear this very sad news. Chuck was always an inspiration to me as a photographer - and for the beautiful painted floor-cloths he used to make.

My dad and mom had just enjoyed visiting with him at the play last week and my family are saddened to learn of his passing. He will be in our thoughts and his family has our sympathy.
