Christopher Mitchell Obituary

Christopher Laurence Mitchell, 78

SHREWSBURY - Christopher Laurence Mitchell died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Vincent's Hospital. Chris was born on October 10, 1940 to Robert Marshall and Janet Sawyer Mitchell. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Susan (Woods), his son, Laurence of Silver Spring, MD along with three grandchildren, Elise, David and Luke; his sisters-in-law Susan Mitchell of Harvard and Joanne Woods of Ashland, two nieces Karen Brandvold and family of Bolton; and Sandra Sloan and family of Harvard. Chris was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert M. Mitchell of Harvard.

Chris spent his early years in Wellesley, graduated from Milton Academy, Milton, MA and RPI, Troy, NY. He also was a graduate of the SIM Program, WPI. Chris's career was as MIS Manager in the computer field at Data General Corp, Jamesbury Corp, Data Translation and Digital Equipment Corporation. He consulted for OMNI Services before retiring to travel in his RV.

Chris was happiest with his family near. He and Susan, with their German Shepherds over the years, loved visiting with their son and grandchildren often changing RV travel routes to stop in Maryland no matter where they were headed!

Chris loved skiing, tennis and sailing. He and Susan enjoyed summers sailing the New England coast, the Chesapeake Bay, a special trip sailing the British Virgin Island and time in St. Maarten. In their RV, Chris and Susan, with their GoldenDoodle, Mitzi G, traveled throughout the United States covering all of the lower 48 states, going cross country three times.

Chris and family want to thank the Cardiac Care Team and nurses at St. Vincent's Hospital for the excellent care and support.

Being a Type 1 Diabetic for over 60 years, Chris donated his body to UMASS Medical School with the hope that it will be useful in the future treatment of this disease.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We are sadden over Chris leaving. We remember first time we met you at a rally in Niagara. A start of friendship that continued even when we were not in our Roadtreks. We will miss our conversations and Chris talking about the 200 Roadtrek! Our sympathy to Susan and family.

Susan, I am saddened to learn of Chris' passing and offer you my condolences. I enjoyed many a conversation with Chris while we were at WPI back in the early '80s.
