David Belinskas Obituary

David J. Belinskas, 74

Shrewsbury - David J. Belinskas, 74, longtime Shrewsbury resident passed away with his devoted wife at his bedside December 3, 2020, joining in heaven his son Keith who passed away on August 8th of 2011.

David was born in Worcester, on June 4, 1946, the son of Stanley and Phyllis (Bindhammer) Belinskas. Raised in Worcester on Grafton Hill, and educated in Worcester, David joined the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly in Vietnam. Upon discharge and return to Worcester, David met the "Love of his Life" Maryann Moossa, they married on June 7th, 1970 and settled in Shrewsbury raising their family with love, dedication, and family over the next 50 years. David worked as an Overhead line supervisor for the Massachusetts Electric/National Grid for 40 years before retiring. He also served as a past board member of the Central One Federal Credit Union and also as a Shrewsbury Town Meeting member.

David is survived by his wife Maryann; their daughter, Tracey Belinskas-Roach and her husband Paul of Millbury; his two beautiful grandsons, Shane and Dylan Belinskas; a daughter in law, Tara Belinskas of Sturbridge; his grand dog, Chase; six brothers, Stanley Belinskas and his wife Gail, Paul Belinskas and his wife Jeannie, Michael Belinskas and his wife Barbara, Daniel Belinskas and his wife Nancy, all of Worcester, Stephen Belinskas and his wife Phyliss of Daytona, FL, and James Belinskas and his wife Madeline of Spencer; his father in law, George K Moossa in Venice, Florida; many nieces, nephews, notably Mark, Matthew and Kurt who were very close to him, extended family and lifelong friends, Billy Holley, Bob Horne, Ike Aubrey, Jim Gendron, Craig Richards, Lee Schonberg, and Lee Bettencourt. Besides, his son Keith and parents, a sister Sally Phenix, his brother, George and mother-in-law, Mabel Moossa predeceased him.

David was a member of St Anne's Church, the Shrewsbury Adelphi Counsel Knights of Columbus as a 3rd degree member and the Corvette Club. He notably enjoyed attending antique car shows, rides in his red corvette with Maryann at his side, and a true family man, as his family always came first in his life. He enjoyed every minute he could spend with them especially Maryann, traveling to places such as Hawaii, Florida, the Caribbean and Aruba, the holidays, special occasions and family dinners. David was also extremely close to his brothers and friends, spending numerous hours talking, laughing, and spending quality time over coffee. He enjoyed playing golf, and the occasional casinos trips. He also coached Hockey and Little League baseball for the town, and enjoyed attending his grandsons' school and sporting events.

A special thank you to the 7th floor ICU nurses at UMASS Hospital in Worcester that took outstanding care of him.

Friends and relatives are invited to his Celebration of Christian Burial Mass to be held Saturday, December 12th at 10:00 am in St Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury. Burial next to his son Keith will follow in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Central Mass Vets Inc., 60 Grove St., Worcester. Uncle David, Tracey and Auntie y’all have a very big and special place in my heart. Tracey you are so lucky to have such a loving father watching over you. Auntie, he loves you so much. The family dynamic I grew up around with you two and uncle David impacted me so much. Thank you for always welcoming me to your home while I was away from home at school. Thank you for making the holidays feel normal and family oriented. Uncle David was my biggest supporter. He came to every single college hockey game he could. I could see that smile from a mile away when I scored a goal in the stands. Prayers to you both. Uncle David was one person I will always look up too. He was one of my greatest motivators in life and in sports. I love y’all with all my heart and prayers to you Auntie and Tracey.

Maryann and Tracey, Extending my most heartfelt sympathy and prayers on the loss of your husband/father. He was always such a joyous man and his smile would light up your heart. When I used to visit, he always made for great conversations and stories which made us laugh and cry at the same time. He loved his family. He was "one of the good guys" and truly special. He left a warm feeling with anyone he met and he left a special place in my heart.

Dear Family,

As a child I was blessed to spend time on Bumblebee Circle and on Lapierre Street with my beloved Uncle David, the kids, and Auntie. I have so many fond memories of my kind, gentle, and giving Uncle David. He didn't just have two kids, he had at any time additional Belinskas cousins running around him as well. Their home was always open to us. As we all grew older and formed our own families, it was Uncle David who devoted himself to keeping the 9 Belinskas siblings and their families together and connected. Family is what came first for him. He and Auntie continued to open their home on holidays and invite all of the adult kids so we could all reconnect.

We, Phenix kids will always be grateful for the loving care and conversations he gave our wonderful Mom, his "Sis." He put everyone first and we are better for being a part of his life. I am so sad for Auntie, Tracy, Paul, Shane, Dylan, the Belinskas brothers and families, the Moossa family, and all the devoted nieces and nephews Uncle leaves behind. I woke up this morning with a feeling of grace as I know Uncle has been reunited with his beloved Keith, Grammie, Grandpa, Uncle George and my beloved Sally girl. May memories of magnificent times ease your pain and know that you have a family that loves you very much.
