David Lloyd Obituary
David William Lloyd, 57, of Holden died April 30th after a long illness. Born in LaPorte, Indiana, he graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, earned his BA from Gettysburg College, his MBA from the University of New Hampshire's Whitmore School of Business and his DBA in management from Boston University. Professor Kevin Clancy, director of the doctoral program at the time, commented on Lloyd's doctoral dissertation, referring to it as, "the most methodologically sophisticated and intellectually rigorous dissertation ever done in the program. He was a very gifted man and his work reflected it." During his career, Lloyd was a marketing instructor at UNH, co-authored a book entitled "Marketing the Arts in a Rural Environment," taught marketing and advertising management at Boston University and later taught at Boston College while consulting to Yankelovich Clancy Shulman, a marketing and public opinion research firm. More recently, he consulted to Chadwick Martin Bailey, a Boston-based marketing research consultancy, and Copernicus, a global marketing consulting firm.
Lloyd's 1999 book, Uncover the Hidden Power of Television Programming, was a critical success, well-received by academics and practitioners alike. Professor Jerry Wind of The Wharton School called the book, "a must read for any advertiser." Jack Connors, the CEO of the Boston-based ad agency Hill Holliday, also praised the book highly, saying it contained, "insights that advertisers and agencies must use to obtain more mileage from campaigns." Allen Rosenshine, CEO of New York agency BBDO Advertising, added: "It's refreshing and important to understand the factual intelligence Lloyd offers to advertisers and agencies alike."
Lloyd's other great passions in life were fishing, hiking, antique cars and politics.
Lloyd is survived by his parents, David and Elsie Lloyd of Holden; a sister, Gillian Lloyd and her husband, Barry Burlingham; and a niece and nephew, all of Boston.
