David Soloway Obituary

David Soloway, age 94, died at the Jewish Healthcare Center on Tuesday, November 23rd.

He leaves his second wife of 4 years, Frances (Israel) Afremoff Soloway. His first wife of 50 years, Rose (Salkind) Soloway died in 1998. He leaves a son, Dr. Edward M. Soloway and his wife Marsha; a daughter, Lori Soloway wife of Bernard Toothaker; two stepdaughters, Laura wife of Larry Cotton of Worcester and Lois wife of Steve Kaufman of Falmouth and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Samuel Soloway.

He was born in Worcester, a son of Eli and Ida (Raphaelson) Soloway and was a lifelong resident.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II and earned the Purple Heart while serving in Europe.

For many years until 1964, he and his brother Samuel Soloway owned and operated the former Soloway Markets, which were founded by their father. From 1964 to 1981 he was the manager of Fairway Beef Co.

He was a Past President of Worcester Lodge # 600 of B'Nai Brith and was a Board of Director of B'Nai Brith Cemetery. He was a member of Temple Emanuel and its Brotherhood, Disabled American War Veterans, Jewish War Veterans Post # 32, The Retired Mens Club of Greendale and was a contributing member of The Jewish Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at NOON TODAY, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery.

Memorial Observance will be held through THIS AFTRENOON, FRIDAY, Nov. 26TH in Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence at 631 Salisbury St.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Jewish Healthcare Center or Jewish Home Hospice, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester 01609.

May God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow. I remember Mr. Soloway from the market and I was the baby sitter for Sam Soloway's children. My husband had the pleasure of working at the market in the early 1950's. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
